Wasn't it something to do with the fact that according to racist Europeans, the most "anatomically perfect" humans came from the Caucuses, so White people must have originated here, hence the term Caucasian being applied mostly to White Europeans? I admit I am not too familiar with the origin of this.

Before the Communist takeover, Russia was the champion of Christians in the region, particularly Orthodox Christians. Both the Greeks and the Armenians were Orthodox. It had little to do with geo-politics, more to do with the politics of identity.

True the idea of "conquest" of Constantinople from the "Asiatic Horde Turk heathens" and bringing in the fold of Orthodox Christianity was in the minds of the Tsarist Russia but the main thing was also the control of those "chokehold" straits through Istanbul

You are correct. Do look up, however, Imperial Russian foreign policy from Peter the Great onwards. In fact, you will find that even after being heavily defeated by the Russians, Charles XII took refuge with the Ottomans. It goes back at least as far as that. It goes as far as the British and the French joining with the Turks Ottomans against the Russians (Crimean War).

By the way, first Russian principality in the region s was established in 10 ct. - Tmutarakan principality.

Like the Balkans its probably the most complicated region in Eurasia if not the world does not help both regions were under one Communist state until the 1990s eg-Soviet Union and Yugoslavia

it did seem all ethnics got along under Socialism than now
