LONDON: British fighter jets have forced a Pakistan International Airways (PIA) flight with 297 passengers on board land at Stansted airport near London after a mid-air alert/
According to Britain media, RAF Typhoon jets first escorted the Manchester-bound flight to Stansted.
The fighter jets flew alongside the PIA Boeing 777 plane over the skies of Britain, before it landed at Stansted.
Reportedly, two jets possibly from RAF Marham were scrambled to intercept the liner traveling from Lahore to Manchester.
The plane has been redirected to London Stansted. The passengers have been reported to be safe.
Typhoon aircraft from RAF Coningsby were launched today to investigate an incident involving a civilian aircraft within UK airspace; further details will be provided when known.
PIA authorities have confirmed the fore-landing.
The incident comes on the heels of the murder of a British soldier this week.
