Let me tell u about my village

1. My village is small and has voting strength of around 350 only. that is around 70 families (350/5) or 18 joint families.
2. It has 25-30 tractors,2 Combines and 2 or 3 JCB/Caterpillar
3. and 12-13 cars including 7 SUVs(1 fortuner and 2 Safari), few buses and 10 tyre Trucks and almost everyone has motorcycles .

Not all village is same, some are better and some not so good.

But One thing is certain, It is far far from Somalia.

I asked which part- but as you have stated It seems you live in a completely different Bundelkhand-

I thought some parts of Madhya Pradesh also made up Bundelkhand- or are you trying to imply that the problem exists only in MP and not UP section of the region- that some how the Rain Gods fudged MP section particularly and blessed UP section of Bundelkhand with bountiful harvests making people all so rich and happy that they started buying SUV to drive them on "Expressways" made there only because SP rules over UP-

From what I know I can at least say that MP Govt- has a better approach to dealing with the problem when compared to UP Govt- one example would be Interest on agricultural loans- i.e. is 3% in MP, but 7% in UP-

BTW Tikampur does lie in region adjacent to or Bundelkhand inside UP's Auraiya District-

Technically yes even the news reporter would know that most of the staple diet of all mankind mainly comes from grass family- i.e. Wheat, Rice Corn etc- But It is obvious here that the situation implies weed or grass which in normal circumstances would be deemed unfit for consumption and is being consumed only due to sheer lack of choice and in desperate circumstances-

BUNDELKHAND, UTTAR PRADESH: In Lalwadi village in Uttar Pradesh's Bundelkhand region, they show us where they forage for the next meal: a parched field on the outskirts.

Here, they scrape through the mud at the base of a dried stalk of a local grass, known as fikaar. A few seconds later, we are shown a few seeds, almost indistinguishable from the soil.

"We normally feed the grass to the cattle," says Prasad, "but now we have no choice but to eat its by-product".

Back in the village, in the home of Param and Hasarbai, an old Sahariya couple supporting a family of seven, we are given a demonstration of how the seeds become a meal: first ground into flour in a stone pestle, then kneaded into a greenish-black dough, and finally shaped into rotis and cooked on an earthen tava on a wood-fired stove.

The accompaniment is no less frugal: a basket of green leaves, which look like spinach, but is called samai, a kind of weed that grows along river banks. This is cooked, with a little water, into a sabzi. There is little to season it; a small dish of oil and salt is poured in towards the end.

As the roti is taken off the griddle and about to be fed to a gaggle of children, we taste a sample. It is bitter to the point of being inedible. Despite the cooking, it tastes of raw grass and the mud. The children too can barely eat it. The adults egg them on, but to no use.

The National Food Security Act, passed in 2013, requires states to update its subsidy rolls to arrive at a more realistic estimate of beneficiaries. Several poor states, like Bihar for instance, have completed the exercise. Uttar Pradesh has not; the state government decided to implement the Act only two months ago. Currently, it identifies only a fourth of its population as BPL. Under the new Act, that figure would be close to 75 per cent, says the economist Jean Drèze.

Any process of revising rolls, especially for a state as vast as Uttar Pradesh, could take months. As a temporary measure, activists like Jean Drèze suggest that the state government temporarily universalise PDS in drought-hit districts like Lalitpur where Lalwadi is located. At the moment, there is little indication that the state is planning this, or any other emergency measure.

Clearly these people down own SUVs and have expressways to race upon- They seem to have far bigger problem on hands like finding some food to eat-

So question is why Tribes are more in MP? because of geography and History of two regions.Tribes like to live location which is inaccessible ,as I have pointed out MP bundelkhand has difficult terrain,red soil,rainfed and highly forested.But in UP it is planer and alluvial soil so supported by dense irrigation canals network.

What is the problem with tribes especially Sahariya tribes ?
~They were originally hunter and gatherers in jungles
~Government has put restrictions on forests and allotted farming lands to them.
~Even though government has allotted lands in their name but they don't know the farming.They r virtually resourceless folks. What to do? as many of us do. Take a escapist route, take a loan from moneylenders,buy some liquor, go back home , hump the wife and produce sons and daughters like rabbit.
~This is why every son is born with lot of debt which was enjoyed by his father.Son has to labour even bonded labour.When this son grows old,he also chose escapist route.Cycles continues.

I have seen the cases,in which these tribes are doing some sort of bonded labour from past 3 generations to moneylenders!

Why 2 ?Give me hundred reports.I would tell you that not even one has pointed towards real problem.No body cared them,nobody see them -no government,no media and no so called NGOs. What Government see,OK too few. not a problem ! unless they show their frustration in violent manner as Naxalite do.

What media see ? this draught drama ! and this farmer suicide drama !
