Some sorts of reforms in the Islamic thoughts and understandings, especially matters pertaining to
Hakikat, is a must. Some Turkish scholars, especially Ustad Bediuzzaman Said Nursi (1877-1960,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Said_Nursî), understood it almost 100 years back. A thorough ground work through education needs to be done, in the fundamental matters of
Iman, Ihlas etc. and how they should guide one's mindset in this age of enormous scientific/economic advances, to regain true holds on the world affairs again. So, he gave this advice to the state, "introduce scientific studies in religious schools, and religious studies in secular schools". Of course, it was ignored. So, he took it upon himself to expound this by composing a 6,000 pages of Kuranic commentary (
Risale-i Nur) on the fundamental matters of attaining
Hakiki Ya'kin (not
Teklidi - imitative) using both brains (reasoning) and heart (spirituality) as relevant to the modern ages. He wanted to prepare generations of Turkish folks to meet the challenges of impending
Fitne and Fesat, so overwhelming that even
Sehabe-i Ikram (RA) used to ask for refuge against it!!!! If Turkey is somewhat surviving right now without wholesale Fitne/Fesat etc. induced blood bath, this is due to the teachings from the illuminous figures like Ustad who appeared at the darkest hours in Turkey. Needless to say, no avenues of
Zulm were spared to subdue these movements, but as usual they failed. And, the results are thee to see...
