Actually I just read the updated article on DAWN. It clarifies this bit :

“It emerged during the investigation that the two liked each other but their parents opposed their involvement. It has not happened suddenly, as the two had been planning this for days.

“The girl brought her father’s licensed pistol which we have seized. We have also taken her father on board for further investigation. The boy shot the girl in the head before killing himself,” he said.

He said the police investigators were convinced that it was a “deliberate” step taken by both with “mutual understanding”, and nobody was forced to take the extreme move.

So if the pistol was brought by the girl, it was obviously not a homicide, it was suicide. As far as the writing on letters, it could be either one of them. It may be the girl who wrote them or the boy.

Also, note that the boy belonged to Shia Ismaili sect and I'm not sure but most likely the girl was either Sunni or some other sect of Shia Islam. That would be the reason why their parents didn't approve of their friendship/relationship.

It was possible the girl shot herself first followed by the boy. Even if boy acted everything, the girl literally committed suicide.
