TechLahore's predictions for 2010

I recently evaluated the predictions from last year. In a nutshell, I was about 80% correct. 2009 has certainly been filled with unique challenges, both at a global and national level. We’re all hopeful the future holds better things, and on that subject, I’ll share with you what I think will go down in 2010. Once again, while I’ve been lucky enough to be fairly accurate over the course of 2008 and 2009, it doesn’t mean the trend will continue in 2010. I won’t try and make safe predictions just so that they come true, but rather focus on things that I beleive all of us are thinking about… even though predicting their course might be fraught with risk.

So here goes:

Political predictions

1. I don’t see Asif Zardari making it through 2010. I think he will be deposed as President.
   
2. Though many political pundits talk about it, I don’t believe there will be mid-term elections this year. Whatever changes occur will be with individual and will not displace the entire post-2008 election scenario.

I'd be interested to know if members here have their own predictions, specially with regards to the security climate.

The outlook can only get better for Pakistan!, we seem to have sunk horribly into the abyss of decline - both politically and militarily.

2010 will only get better for us in Afghanistan - America will start drawing down into big cities and start negotiating with Taliban for partial control with most areas being governed by Taliban. Here we need to be sharp and strike agreements with the new rulers.

Domestically, we can only improve by starting afresh with our political institutions after the realisation that they have failed and failed miserably.

Inflation is out of control and we will see more riots over energy crisis and cost of living going up. Expect more burnt plazas and offices through direct action by people on the streets.

things will slowly get better i think; i dont things can get any worse....


if you solve the militancy problem, end load-shedding (we were told it would be done in December), boost PR and bring in more FDI, things will automatically get better


Pakistan is a rocket, the fuse is wet. Once things take off, they will TAKE OFF. We have a God-gifted country rich in resources. What we have is enviable. We have so much going for us.

The leaders just dont play the cards right!
