TEAM AUSTRALIA PARTICIPATION AT IDEF 2013
AND ASSOCIATED MISSION IN TURKEY
MAY 2013
Team Defence Australia will be an exhibitor at IDEF to be held 7-10 May 2013 in Istanbul. Team Defence Australia also plans to conduct a trade mission to Ankara following the event to capitalise on defence export opportunities in the region and to
build on existing contacts made during the April 2012 mission to Turkey.
Applications will be accepted from 1 December 2012 to 18 January 2013 from Australian defence companies interested in participating on the Team Defence Australia stand at IDEF. Participation on the stand will be free of charge however participants will be responsible for their flights, accommodation, meals and freight costs display requirements outside the standard exhibition pod configuration described below.
Turkeys Defence Market
Turkeys defence industry is sophisticated and robust, and access to the Turkish defence market provides an excellent opportunity for Australian suppliers to gain entry to wider markets and particularly those of other Islamic countries. The Turkish economy is also strong and continues to achieve growth, envied by many of its neighbours. Turkey is receptive to Australians and Australian companies generally and is very interested in innovative and niche products, particularly if they are not constrained by ITAR requirements. Opportunities exist across all domains as Turkey is successfully manufacturing sophisticated indigenous land, sea, air and electronic warfare platforms. Australian companies producing components or subsystems, systems integration, and innovative solutions in all these areas should seriously consider marketing in Turkey.
IDEF
Held under the auspices of the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, IDEF is tri- service, biennial event which brings together exhibitors, delegations and visitors from around the world. Istanbul has traditionally been at the crossroads of East and West, and IDEF continues this historical role providing an excellent venue for defence companies seeking broad exposure for their products and capabilities.
Team Defence Australias presence at IDEF and on the mission will be led by one of the DEUs Two Star military officers and an exhibitors booklet will be produced for distribution at the event. A series of networking events will also be organised to maximise exposure to Australias defence
industry capabilities.The link for IDEF 2013 ishttp://www.tuyap.com.tr/webpages/idef13/index_eng.php
Team Defence Australia stand
The Team Defence Australia stand at IDEF will be open plan with exhibitors having individual pods (4sqm) each providing a lockable storage cupboard, bench space sufficient to accommodate a laptop computer. There will also be wall space for
display of exhibitor names and flat-screen TV or promotional material and bar stool seating. The Australian Defence Force will be supporting Team Australia at IDEF through the presence of senior uniformed personnel. A series of networking events will also be organised to maximise exposure of Australias defence industry capabilities.
Applications are also invited from defence industry representatives who wish to attend the exhibition but do not wish to take dedicated display floor space on the stand. These participants will be included in Team Australia events and have access to common floor space (use of meeting and storage rooms and refreshment facilities) and export facilitation assistance on an equal basis with exhibiting participants.
Mission to Ankara
Ankara, Turkeys Capital is the headquarters for the Turkish military and head office for many Turkish defence companies. The Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, also based in Ankara, is a major shareholder in many of the major defence companies. Participants in the trade mission will meet with senior decision makers from government, the military and major defence companies in Ankara. The DEU will also explore the feasibility of visiting other major defence companies headquartered elsewhere in Turkey during the mission.
As the mission will provide an opportunity for companies to present their products and capabilities directly to potential customers and at marginal additional cost, companies attending IDEF are encouraged to participate in the Mission. Defence Attaches and other agencies including Austrade will be assisting the DEU to secure appointments which best match the capabilities of participating companies.
