CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Taunsa hydel power project is of great importance and 120 megawatt electricity will be generated from it.



The CM stated this while presiding over a meeting regarding Taunsa hydel project on Thursday.



The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary Energy, Secretaries of Irrigation, Planning & Development and the officers concerned. Additional Chief Secretary Energy gave a briefing with regard to Taunsa hydel power project. Addressing the meeting, the CM said Taunsa hydel power project should be executed speedily and the consultant for this project should be appointed at the earliest.

The CM stated this while talking to a delegation of General Electric International, here on Thursday.



Matters pertaining to operating the non-operational power plants in Faisalabad, Lahore and Multan were discussed in the meeting. He said early completion of power generation projects was the top priority of the government and all possible steps were being taken for the purpose. He said necessary measures were being taken for the implementation of the agreements for cooperation in the energy sector. The CM said a number of agreements had been signed with local and foreign energy companies and investors for cooperation in energy sector.



He said cooperation of General Electric International in energy sector would be welcomed.



The chief minister said besides launching of new projects, up-gradation of transmission system was also necessary and due attention would have to be paid in this direction.



He said the steps were also being taken for the capacity-building of the institutions in energy sector.



Officials of General Electric International, while speaking on the occasion, said their company wanted to promote cooperation with Punjab government in the energy sector. Commercial Director of the company Salman Khan gave a briefing regarding rehabilitation of non-operational plants in Multan, Lahore and Faisalabad. He said 750 megawatt electricity could be generated by reviving these projects which would help accelerate industrial process in Faisalabad, Multan and Lahore. He said the rehabilitation of these power plants would increase productivity of textile sector as well as reduce loadshedding in these cities.

He expressed these views while addressing a function held in the honour of the elected representatives, administrative and police officers and the relevant staff for making excellent arrangements during the visit of Turkish Prime Minster to Lahore, here Thursday.



The Chief Minister said warm welcome of Turkish Prime Minister Recip Tayyip Erdogan and his delegation reflected Pakistan-Turkey friendship and deep love of the people of both the countries. The CM said that the Turkish Prime Minister and his delegation had thanked on the love and affection they had received in Lahore.
