LAHORE Rejecting allegations that assasinated former Governor Salmaan Taseer had committed blasphemy, the Minhajul Quran International Ulema Council has stressed that the religious forces have launched movement for release of Mumtaz Hussain Qadri without necessary academic research. Stance of MQI, an outfit from Barelvi school of thought, is in stark contradiction to the rest of the religious parties that have launched a countrywide movement for the release of Taseers assassin.
Addressing a press conference here at Lahore Press Club on Thursday, the MQI ulema stressed that Salmaan Taseers statement did not amount to blasphemy of the Prophet (PBUH). The main purpose of MQI press conference was to condemn certain Barelvi scholars who had used harsh words against Dr Tahirul Qadri for supporting Salman Taseer.
