TAPI Natural Gas Pipeline Project to be Launched in 2021

.
It’s more about Turkmenistan exporting its gas on the world market to earn more then the Chinese are willing to pay them.
The central asian republics happen to be connected to both China and Europe by natural gas pipelines (This is because they were part of the Soviet Union and therefore connected to the Soviet/Russian pipeline system).

Those also happen to be both of the most expensive import markets for natural gas.

I see zero point in them expanding to less expensive import markets.

As far as I know the TAPI proposal was always a LNG pipeline and therefore was always dependent on subsidies (aka, someone has to foot the bill for the counter-economic pipeline).

Since the proposal isn't even a CNG pipeline, and involves going through 2 semi-hostile countries just to get to a hostile third country, it has zero fundamental merit in my opinion.

I don't see why Turkmenistan wouldn't just export all their spare gas to China.

An LNG pipeline from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan shouldn't be fundamentally cheaper than simply importing LNG by ship from Qatar for India.

Hi,

TAPI is not an Lng pipeline, it is a natural gas pipeline. The idea for the Türkmengaz operated Lng export terminal (via Pakistan) stems from the will to bypass that third country (India) and her tantrums, by providing Turkmenistan opportunity (and means) to sell India's to be volumes to international markets, other than China. And in the process eliminating any financial backlash for Türkmengaz , not only securing it, gas sales but also future upstream investments and production enhancement opportunities, for Afghanistan, the transit fees and for Pakistan, not meagre transit fees nor subsidized gas, but being a reliable transit hub for Central Asian energy export to the world, are the prized jewels.

The central asian republics happen to be connected to both China and Europe by natural gas pipelines (This is because they were part of the Soviet Union and therefore connected to the Soviet/Russian pipeline system).

I see zero point in them expanding to less expensive import markets.

There are emerging markets other than China and Europe to explore. Like Bangladesh, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and then are the ever energy starved consumers like Japan and South Korea. Türkmengaz can become a balancing player in Spot Lng market. Central Asian (Turkmenistan) gas mainly flows to China (through Central Asia to China four pipelines infrastructure, operated by CNPC), their volumes to Russia have declined significantly in recent years. They don't have an infrastructure in place to sell their gas to Europe and Russia won't share her pipeline capacity or let them use their lands for transit, they will be straight up competitors for her own (Gazprom) gas. Also the transit routes and fees will be a migraine to deal with.

Just like a buyer cannot depend on one supplier, same is true for a supplier. Türkmengaz needs diversity in her sales portfolio and Pakistan can provide it to her at minimum cost and investment on Turkmen's part. All they have to do is to buy capacity in Pakistan Stream and setup an export Lng terminal. A modest 5mtpa (600mmcfd) Lng export terminal will make Türkmengaz more money than selling NG to India.

If you go through Pak-Russia recent discussions on PSGP, and Pakistan's successful inclusion of a tie in point (in PSGP's design) with TAPI and Russia's insistence on Pakistan for not offloading it's (74%) shares to a third party (CNPC), can present a curtailed view of Pakistan's canvas as a whole, for PSGP, TAPI and Central Asia-Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Corridor and it's subsequent linkage to CPEC and BRI.

It appears that the english language articles I have read are confused on that point then.

They don't have an infrastructure in place to sell their gas to Europe and Russia won't share her pipeline capacity or let them use their lands for transit

Very interesting.

Didn't know how disunited that former central asian soviet states are currently with russia.

This pipeline project is not good for Pakistan after completion of this project Taliban would be able to blackmail Pakistan. Why Pakistan is not building Iran pipeline
They will have no leverage over Pakistan. They will only make some extra money from transit fee. Taliban will not break the agreement or otherwise risk suspension of trade from Pakistan. Afghanistan uses Pakistani sea ports for free so they wouldn’t want to displease Pakistan and risk expensive trade through alternative routes. TAPI will give them free money and nobody wants to refuse money when they are getting it for literally doing nothing

India Pakistan trade benefits India. Pakistans imports from India would be higher than exports

Pakistan's imports fr India would be higher than exports yes.

BUT

We will be replacing less costly imports of vegetables, wheat, sugar from far countries with relatively cheap easy to get Indian alternatives. I mean we buy sugar from other countries for a price more than 20% of what India offers. This 20% is too much of a difference when you are talking about imports worth billions of dollars.

Other example is bikes and cars. The price that an Indian can gets a car or bike in India is almost 50% less than what we are being charged in Pakistan. Same car, same specifications, same model. Though less quality. Just compare the two markets and it's prices.

If we shift our imports from other countries to India. Even though maybe our imports will reach to $6+ . Still we will be saving atleast $2+ as compare to our current imports. These savings plus add our exports to them. And we are good

.
Is saray paragraph ki summary ha trade with India would not only be in favor of India but would also destroy Pakistans agriculture and motorcycle and car industry

This means you are not aware of our agricultural imports.

Sir we imported atleast 200 thousand ton sugar last year. Wheat also worth hundreds of million each year. Cotton imports were alone $ 2.3 billion. Utt jao Bhai... We are facing deficiencies.

Turkmenistan, India discuss implementation of TAPI

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 20
By Amina Nazarli - Trend:

Turkmenistan and India discussed the construction of a transnational gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI), Trend reports citing the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan.
Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Foreign Minister of India, and Rashid Meredov, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, met in New Delhi on December 19 to discuss joint actions to implement the TAPI project.
The $10 billion TAPI pipeline will connect the massive Galkynysh gas field in southern Turkmenistan to Fazilka in western India, passing through the Afghan cities of Herat and Kandahar, Pakistani Quetta, and Multan to Fazilka in western India.

The length of the gas pipeline will be 1.814 km, with a throughput capacity of 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year (across Turkmenistan - 214 km, across Afghanistan - 774 km, across Pakistan - 826 km).

TAPI construction began in 2015, while the ceremonial welding of the symbolic pipe joint on the border of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan took place in 2018. Turkmenistan and Afghanistan signed a Memorandum on the selection of land plots for the TAPI highway in September 2020.

The entire infrastructure for receiving the gas pipeline has already been built at the endpoint of TAPI - India.

Year 2050 Tapi project will be launched. India stil discussing.

.
We should work with India, Tajikistan and Afghanistan to get TAPI completed. The difficulty will be funding the completion in Afghanistan. Maybe all the other three countries can contribute towards that cost. We need the gas as much as the Indians do. Also long term trade and engagement is going to force the far right to change the way they approach the India/Pakistan relationship.

.
After Talibans take over, ADB has stopped financing the project which has created a serious hurdle in the implementation of the project moving forward.

.
With Taliban in power, very few financial institutions will be ready to back this mammoth project. On top of that, Taliban have still not able to assert themselves as harbinger of peace. They can hardly guarantee security to this project when ISIS is attacking them daily in cities. Looks like a no-go project.

.
'I' is just a placeholder for what that land would be after the Final War. It doesn't mean India in grand scheme of things.

Agree. Atm, its just a "truck ke bati" (one which actually make sense) but in greater scheme of things, you are spot on.
