Moscow: Russia's defence shipyard "Yantar" has launched first of the three Indian stealth frigates - INS Teg (Sabre) - at a colourful ceremony in the Baltic enclave of Kaliningrad.

Under USD 1.6 billion contract signed in July 2006, INS Teg begins the second series of three Project 11356 Talwar Class (Krivak-III) stealth guided missile frigates to be followed by INS Tarkash (Quiver) and INS Trikand (Bow).

INS Teg was launched with the recitation of Vedic hymns by Indian naval attache in Moscow Commodore S K Grewal and breaking of coconut by the Indian Consul General in St Petersburg Radhika Lal Lokesh.

Russia has previously built three Talwar class frigates for India -- INS Talwar (from the Hindi language meaning Sword), INS Trishul (Trident), and INS Tabar (Axe).

In accordance with the Russian tradition, a bottle of champagne was broken at its hull by its 'god mother' Raisa Romashko, who is an eminent shipbuilder of Russia.

"The trials of INS Teg will start in 2010," "Yantar" shipyard Director General Igor Orlov was quoted as saying by Military TV Channel "Zvezda".

"Jai Ho"

There should be follow on order after these 3 frigates..

And that should be the batch of atleast 4 frigates , and the deal shoul be done without losing any time...

In the news it says there was an awesome launch ceremony..im still looking for the pics of the new vessel.

What is meant by stealth frigate? Is there any info regarding the rcs, and any other signature? And any comparison to other "stealthy" warships?

From Wiki :

Their reduced radar cross section is achieved by a very clean superstructure compared to conventional designs, angled sides and radar absorbent material, a composite material of wood and glass fiber as hard as steel, light, and resistant to fire. Most modern fighting ships built around the world since the introduction of the La Fayette have followed the same principles of stealth

wow, Bharat the big spender! 3 ACs in Cochin and this. But this is not fair, should buy from USA, I mean how much IT/CC money has India been earning from Russia ?

Going by This Logic... China Must actually Jump to US.. Dont u think so ?

sure, but US/EU don't sell weapon systems to China --- thus the trade inbalance/deficit only getting bigger.
Whereas India can buy from just about anyone, everywhere, and it does,
I mean India has probably more mixed weapons from more countries than anyone else, agree ?

I know that much. It should be easy to reduce the rcs on a ship than a plane as it doesn't have speed and weight constraint. But that should be possible for ALL the warships. Dont have to worry about aerodynamics and all. So what is special about stealthy warships, what is the technology everyone doesn't have. AFAIK, radar doesn't work that effectively close to surface, especially water surface than at height. So reducing rcs shouldn't be that extraordinary?
