Taliban insists it controls Haqqanis, not Pakistan
AFP (1 hour ago) Today
KABUL: The Taliban took the unusual step Tuesday of insisting that it, not Pakistan, controls the Haqqani network, with Islamabad under growing US pressure to cut alleged ties with the group.

The militia advised Pakistan to prioritise “Islamic and national” interests and stand firm in the face of “America’s two-faced and implacable politics”.

“Neither are our bases in Pakistan nor do we need residence outside of our country,” said the English-language statement in the name of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan —the Taliban’s name for itself —on its Voice of Jihad website.

“All the military and civilian activities in the country are our own initiatives and our own actions.

“The respected Maulawi Jalaluddin Haqqani (the group’s founder) is (one of the) Islamic Emirate’s honourable and dignified personalities and receives all guidance for operations from the leader of the Islamic Emirate.”

Most analysts consider the Haqqani network a powerful Taliban faction loyal to Taliban supreme leader Mullah Omar, with strong ties to al Qaeda.

“Our advice to the people of Pakistan and its government is that it should deliberate on America’s two-faced and implacable politics,” said the Taliban.

“It should always give precedence to its Islamic and national interests and they should have a firm belief that America will never be happy with them until they loot all their material and moral assets.”

^^ Its like a bandit saying that " My hide out is not in this area so dont waste your time attacking this place" .. What a childish attempt..

I think USA was expecting such a big reaction from anyone .......

this contradicts sirajudin's previouse statement.

lol ... its America new message to PA to operate against Haqqani Group because they are TALIBANS actually
pathetic

we should not attack Haqqanis anyway, usa is going to flee from afghanistan, but Pakistan have to stay there, we dont want more suicide bombings and innocents getting killed.

This news serves as a reminder and reiterates the dangerous alliance between these terrorist organizations. The Taliban and Haqqani network are responsible for killing innocents on both sides of the border. Pakistan in particular continues to face the wrath of terrorism, with the Taliban being the main culprits, boastfully claiming responsibility for murdering innocent citizens of Pakistan. The cross border attacks have also increased recently, and evidence shows the Haqqani network is responsible for the recent attack on the NATO trucks, followed by the attack on the US embassy in Afghanistan. The US has asked Pakistan to step up its efforts and go after the Haqqani network to prevent further attacks. The current situation has created another disagreement, and officials from both governments released several statements expressing their opinion. Given the long history of both nations working together to combat terrorism, one should not be too hopeless regarding their future. If the past is any indication to the future, then we can hope both governments will be able to work out the differences for the sake of achieving the common interest. At the same time, the reality does not change, and losing territory in Afghanistan has long pushed the Taliban over the brink of desperation. The transition of security responsibilities proves that the hard work of the US and NATO forces have made it possible for the ANA to independently protect the nation. The doubters will continue to doubt and not waste any opportunity to depict a false picture about Afghanistan. Taliban, on the other hand, do what they are good at, and that is to attack and kill to further their agenda. They have lost all shame in regards to humanity and now they have the audacity to advise Pakistan to prioritize “Islamic and national” interests when they are responsible for taking thousands of innocent lives.

Are you sure they are bandits? Cause Uncle Sam is busy providing them diplomatic offices in Qatar and Britain.

Hey, even bandits are humans and at times you do find the occasional good fish. Even in India, there was a huge initiative to resettle the bandits of Chambal and was a pretty big success. We doing the same with some misguided youth of Kashmir at this time.. Same would be the case with Taliban

So this takes us back to playing good Taliban, bad Taliban. Isn't it what US and India have been accusing Pakistan of doing all along?

Not really.. Pakistan's stand is that some Taliban who only murder and commit atrocities in Afghanistan are good Taliban and can be used as a tool in Pakistan's alleged state policy of using terrorism for asymmetric power projection in the region. The other Taliban who do the same within Pakistan are bad Taliban and should be attacked

What I said on the other hand is that people within both groups who are willing to denounce the evil way and come back to the mainstream of civil society should be given a chance to redeem themselves.. Isnt that also the base for Criminal justice.. Thats why the part of govt dealing with jails etc is called Department of Correction in a lot of countries...

You are not getting the point here. What I am saying is that both US and Pakistan are supporting certain factions of Taliban who are ready to promote their respective agendas. The groups who have negotiated with US are given a free hand and being helped in establishing their International offices as reward whereas groups that are pro-pakistan and are not ready to negotiate are being marginalised and US is pressurising Pakistan to take action against these factions such as Haqqanis. So essentially US too is playing good Taliban, bad Taliban.

If the negotiations are successful and US hands over the country to these people, do you think they are gonna be any different to what they were prior to 9/11?

Nobody can disagree with this and Pakistan has provided similar opportunities to the TTP members who are ready to give up violence.

Did the ISI tell them to do that? Why would the Taliban care about Pakistan being blamed by the U.S. unless they are protecting them?

This is the strongest message from the afghan Taliban so far, they have realized that America is doomed to fail in Afghanistan and they will have the upper hand at the negotiating table.

We should support them dgsndrgikmmfgh and screw the Americans like they did to us..
