A militant video purports to show a Chinese tourist kidnapped by theTalibaninPakistana year ago asking for his government to help him be released.

The video was released Sunday by a militant known to belong to a Taliban splinter group. While it could not be independently verified by The Associated Press, the man in the video resembled other known photographs of Hong Xudong, kidnapped in May 2014.

In the video, the man identified as Hong asks for theChinese governmentto honor his kidnappers' ransom demands, without ever stating them. Chinese officials and state media did not immediately comment on the video Sunday.

Hong went missing after entering Pakistan from neighboring India in April 2014. He was abducted near Pakistan's lawless tribal regions, a haven for militants.

Kidnapping for ransom is one of various sources for the militants to generate money. Such abductions are sometime also used to pressure the Pakistani government to release militants in custody.An old report suggests that the victim was cycling from Lahore to Quetta.This kidnapping phenomenon has recently died down,as the operation against TTP has deterred and divided them to a limited number of clans.They don't enjoy the same amount of freedom that they used to do.

Now that the era of brutal punishments is over the TTP is using kidnappings (the victims that already have in their custody), and psychological warfare to further spread terror and reclaim its hold on power somehow.Most of the times the videos that they release are not the recent ones.

offering ajit dovol some ransom didn't make any sense, Chinese most offer ransom to the correct guys . if the Chinese want to save their people they must pay some ransom to general raheel sharif and Lieutenant-General Rizwan Akhtar. that is what CIA did to capture osama bin laden. they just give 25 million $ to Lt Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha and general kayani to betray the national hero of pakistan. what chinese must do is to offer the correct amount, it was 25 million in 2010 to get the info on the location of bin laden, now it may be around 30 million for getting info about the hostages.... as the major Iqbal said to Tahawwur Hussain Rana before 26/11, "every thing is for sale in pakistan"
