The Taliban militant group has hanged a Pakistani military intelligence officer, claiming that the killing was carried out in revenge for recent executions of militants by the Pakistani government.
Two videos, released by the group on Sunday, show the man being hanged and a Taliban speaker elaborating on the retaliatory nature of the execution, Reuters reported.
Surrounded by a group of masked men, the victim identifies himself as Bashir Ahmad Khan in the first video, saying he was recruited by Pakistan's military intelligence agency and "trained to trace the Taliban’s training camps.”
In the second video, Khan is hanged and shot, after one of the masked men spells out the reason of the execution and threatens that “this is just the beginning.”
In June 2014, Pakistani government launched an all-out offensive against militant hideouts across the troubled northwestern tribal regions, when a deadly raid on the Karachi International Airport ended the government’s faltering peace talks with the militants.
In retaliation for the government attacks staged on the group, Taliban massacred 134 school children at a school in the northern city of Peshawar in December 2014, the deadliest attack carried out by the militants in the history of Pakistan.
Since then, heavy clashes have been reported between the warring sides.
Pakistani officials say almost 3,000 militants have been killed or executed since the launch of the operation.
