PESHAWAR: As unconfirmed reports of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan chief Mullah Fazlullah’s death circulated in the media early Monday, spokesmen for different Taliban groups denied that Pakistan’s most wanted terrorist was killed in an operation by the military.

TTP spokesman Mohammad Khorasani claimed that reports regarding Fazlullah’s death were “absolutely baseless rumors”.

A spokesman for Taliban splinter group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar also denied the report.

Military and independent sources also declined to confirm reports of the TTP supremo’s death in an offensive in Khyber agency’s Tirah valley.

On Saturday, the army’s public relations wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said at least 80 militants were killed and approximately 100 others injured in a major operation in Khyber.

News of the latest offensive was followed by widespread speculation about the presence of Fazlullah in the area at the time of the strikes.

However, there was no confirmation about his fate from official or military sources.

The military has been engaged in a full-scale offensive against Taliban and other militants in North Waziristan and Khyber tribal districts along the Afghan border since last year.

TTP gunmen killed over 130 schoolchildren in a deadly attack at Peshawar’s Army Public School in December

TTP chief Fazlullah, who is also known as ‘Mullah Radio’ for his use of an illegal FM channel to spread extremist propaganda, also ordered the 2012 shooting in Swat that gravely injured schoolgirl Malala Yousufzai – last year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate

The school massacre, Pakistan’s deadliest ever terror attack, prompted the government to announce a tough crackdown on terrorist groups, lift a moratorium on the death penalty, and amend the constitution to set up military courts for the speedy trial of terrorism cases.

For all the operations conducted during the last decade, PA seems to have an uncanny ability to let TTP leaders slip through their fingers.

Is the US intelligence system really that much superior to ours? Or do we know where these leaders are hiding but lack the ability, unlike US, to go after them?

Unlike the US, Pakistan isn't willing to go into Afghanistan to chase after these guys. Pakistan is complaining about the US violating it's sovereignty, if it does the same, it will be hypocritical and ruin relations with Afghan President Ghani.

Hot pursuit across the border was threatened, but it was only used as a way to pressure the Afghans to launch military operations against the TTP, I doubt PA would actually do it.

No, unfortunately. I was hoping his body was splattered across the ground, but it seems that I was too hopeful. Never the less, the operation seems to be going along successfully. Fazlullah's days are coming to a close, and eventually he'll run out of luck.
What are some good venues to get latest on the operation? ISPR is too slow. If you can't post it here, please PM me. Thanks.

Only a drone can take out this dbag, but it won't. The rightist/pro-zionist thought in US does not want peace to return to Pakistan. The rightist redneck Americans were cashing on using TTP as a pretext to snatch the Pakistani nukes, and they had predicted that Pakistan would implode by 2015.

The only other option of taking out this dbag is to either poison him using intelligence operations(the way Russians killed that Chechen terror leader), or to use a proxy in Afghanistan. But the Pakistan friendly mercenary/terrorists in Afghanistan wouldn't take on TTP for TTP has good strength in Afghanistan. As for ANA, just forget it. They're not capable of mountain warfare in places like Kunar, for they lack air support and also a will and discipline.

You'd have to ask others. I mostly get my info from around the net, or from my cousins and friends in Pakistan.

Taliban many times also deny news at start than confirm it after a day or two

it will be far better if he is captured alive, and sentenced to death via judiciary.....
