In addition, stay in Taiwan three hundred thousand Japanese have not been repatriated, was the Chinese government's mercy. Today, some people of Japanese descent in Taiwan, is also relatively small, in the general population.
There were over 500,000 Japanese civilians in Taiwan by the end of the war. That was 1/12th of the entire Taiwanese population. Many of them stayed in Taiwan, marrying with other Taiwanese people. Now Taiwan's population is over 25 million.
I do believe that many Taiwanese people probably don't identify that they are Japanese decent, or , perhaps, many of them do not know they are Japanese.
Remember that 500,000 Japanese civilians (out of 6 million overall) in Taiwan never returned to Japan. Also, Japanese soldiers that were stationed in Taiwan stayed in Taiwan. Not many returned to Japan, many stayed in that country. As you may know that Japanese soldiers did not commit any crimes in Taiwan in the war, and Taiwan was practically untouched during the war.
You know that Taiwan was really developed by Japan during the colonial years, right? It was even more industrialized that some areas of Japan proper.
