According to Canada's Kanwa Information Center, Vietnam is currently building a docking station for the new subs in a quiet and secluded area about 60km north of Cam Ranh Bay. From the new base, the subs will be able to cruise disputed waters in the South China Sea and carry out surveillance and deterrence against foreign vessels.
Additionally, Vietnam is also trying to elevate its remote submarine detection capabilities, with sources claiming that the US has already promised to export its P-3 Orion anti-submarine aircraft to Vietnam and that Vietnamese officers are being sent to Taiwan and the US to learn the technology
