One of my son's very good friends is from China. Kid's mom was warning us from late Feb about Covid 19. We sadly thought that she is exaggerating and anyway this disease will not reach the US !!!
She was saying that Wuhan alone has a death toll of over 25,000.
Still , saying that 700 K dead seems too far fetched to me . Can't be that high.

The Covid-19 started about Jan 2020, to the end of Feb is about 60 days, the virus takes time to kill some body, usually about one month time, let's take example of New York, as they did not full lockdown of city, so the transmission rate is much faster than Wuhan, but the death day by day as https://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/covid/covid-19-data.page
the highest death toll is 598, let said 600 even, lets assume we have 600 death per day in Wuhan, from early Feb, also we assume Feb. has 30 days, 600 x 30 = 18,000, it is still less than the mother told you 25,000!
