Dhaka: Syed Ashraful Islam has resigned as general secretary of the ruling Awami League following numerous speculation that he might be removed from his post due his poor performance. Confirming the resignation on Saturday midnight, a top ranking party leader preferring anonymity said, Syed Ashraf submitted his resignation letter to partys president, also Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday evening. Sheikh Hasina asked Syed Ashraf to take back the letter and she didnt receive it. Daily Prme News also reported on Friday that Syed Ashraf could be removed from his party post following the partys worst electoral debacle and the party high commands move to overhaul the party rank and file to overcome the frustration that gripped the grassroots. -
