what are you talking about mate. Type-214 is not even fully operational yet so US cant really comment on that right now. gotland is a old design sub compared to type-214 and sweds agreed to lease one to USN. Sweeds are already planing to phase them out by 2020.
Type-214 and type-212 are the quietest conventional subs in the world! germans will never allow US to have access to their latest technology.

The point of this forum is to learn from each other and except it. I myself have learned alot from senior members like Muradk, Mark, mastank etc. You my friend should also except a thing or two who is trying to say the right thing for your own benefit.
Why do you keep associating Gotland's quietness with Type-212? does it have a-magnetic body? this is just the basic question and the answer is no. The most quietest thing about gotland is the "AIP" system. and mind you both Type-212/214 share almost the same next generation AIP system.
The only Swedish sub comparable to Type-212 is the new class A-26 which will arrive by the end of next decade.

Well, I guess the question is what is the big difference between the domestic U212 and the export U214? Of course we will never know the full answer.

YES IT DOES MEANS THAT! Both U-boats uses about the same AIP system meaning their noise emission is about the same. remember US main issue is with the "quietness of conventional sub" meaning a good AIP sub can stay submerged on the sea bed almost undetected or travel at 6 knots submerged and still generate little or no noise.
Even american analysts have made a lot of noises about Pakistan possibly using their Agosta-90b AIP subs against the US.

U214 is certainly a real good Sub,,
it features the AIP onboard the worlds quietist Sub the U212!
it also features hydrogen fuel celll giving it longer endurance periods!
also the skew back propeller from U212 effectively minimize the noise signature, these features impart stealth ability to U214 to some extent.
a major contributor to the stealth of U212 is the non-magnetic hull and that is the only think that U214 lacks,, this do not make it an inferior sub by any means..
u214 is capable enough to take any modren class Sub and will truely be the main stay for ON against the indian sub fleet. i dare to say that U214 when operational with PN will give PN an edge over indina navy in submerged fleet as it is better then anything present with Indian navy submarine fleet!!
