So, the Swedes are chasing a submarine, with some suggesting that it is Russian and may have mechanical problems. This started a few days back when someone claimed to have seen a sub inside Sweden's island banks (between the islands and the mainland). Now the Swedes are looking for it. Its been days, with no confirmed evidence that there was anything real there (that I've heard). Has anyone else got better info?
Just to stir the pot, here's the Guardian suggesting it could push Sweden in to the arms of NATO. The Guardian view on Sweden’s defences: is Nato inevitable? | Editorial | Comment is free | The Guardian
My personal feeling is that the last thing NATO needs is another country that is unwilling to pull it's own weight, but I expect the rest of Europe would welcome them.
The Guardian is claiming, amongst other things, that Sweden does not have even a single helicopter equipped for ASW. Is this true? Seems unlikely.
