Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi is to lead a delegation to China for the first time next week.

The visit comes amid strained ties between the two neighbors over conflicts near their border and months ahead of a general election in Myanmar.

Observers said the trip underlines the changes in both countries' policies, with Beijing engaging in exchanges with various sectors other than just the government, and the party headed by Suu Kyi expected to continue reaching out to Beijing if it wins the election.

President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang will meet Suu Kyi, who heads Myanmar's National League for Democracy, during the trip from June 10 to 14, Nyan Win, the party's secretary and spokesman, told Reuters.

On Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei hailed exchanges between China and various parties in Myanmar, saying he hoped such communication can be strengthened.

Fan Hongwei, an expert on Southeast Asian studies at Xiamen University, said stability in Myanmar and Chinese investment would be high on the agenda for Suu Kyi's visit.

Relations between the two countries were strained in March when a bomb dropped by a Myanmar warplane killed four people and injured nine others in Lincang, Yunnan province. Myanmar later apologized.

Xu Liping, an expert on Southeast Asian affairs at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that after some setbacks, Beijing is "seeking an environment" for its investment in Myanmar.

Myanmar's reformist government has sought to reduce its heavy dependence on China since taking office in 2011 and has suspended a multibillion-dollar Chinese-led dam project. Ties have warmed recently, and both governments also signed more than a dozen cooperation deals last year.

Xu said whether Suu Kyi's party wins the November election or not, she has an undoubted influence on the country.

"China doesn't take sides in Myanmar's political struggle, but extends exchanges to it. The message from Suu Kyi to the world is that her party, if elected, will sustain traditional ties and upgrade cooperation with China."

Welcome, let's see what information she will bring with to China.

She is USA man and China would prefer not to deal with her. Her ascend will be a disaster to China geopolitics. Her background is quite anti China interest. Her father general Aung San is Japan man.

That is still ok but her husband Michael Aris was a Tibetan scholar and Tibetan independent sympathizer.

Hahaha, we just don't mind her relation with America. We pay attention to her relation with China.

No actually, these days she is facing a lot of flak for her silence on Rohingya issue.

Also, she may have a good relation with the west, but that is largely because China didn't ever try to reach out to her, EVER! Due to its relations with the Military Junta, China just let her rot in the jail.

Even, after that she is totally not against China and its interests. She cleared all Chinese mining projects when she was part of some committee. And never really took anything against China's interests.

Rather, it is the present day Junta that is inciting Buddhists against Chinese. They are being fed the propaganda, that the whole Kokang issue has been created by the Chinese, and the Chinese are funding and inciting the Kokangs. Not only this, the Junta as far as I know, has also stymied many Chinese investments, and major projects.

The west and their Islamo ally wanted her to forward Islamo interest in Myanmar. Her father is champion anti Islamo nationalist and all the Buddhist see her as secular spiritual leader.

To be frank Islamofascism is USA and Sunni creation to screw people meanwhile patriotic muslim like shia keep getting shit.

For her background, china do not want her to have power. But china always reach out to all stake holders.

Now this is interesting. I wonder if it is related to the role she will be allowed to have at the next election.

Any information on what her itinerary will be?

She has a 4-5 day tour, and will meet both Xi and Li, which is big.

I hear our president Xi Jinping and premier Li will meet with her and her 20 member MNLD delegation. The conference should be in Beijing. As to tradition, our president mainly discuss politics and strategy, our premier mainly discuss detailed cooperation.

That's encouraging for me as any true democratic process must include her.

If she is meeting with the CCP top cadres then they must be sounding her out as a potential new president.

She may mess up your country. Myanmar go the way of Junta-ism is not without good reasons and maybe a longer time of Junta-ism is good for you Barmese. Forget about democracy at the moment.

In 1960s, your elites felt that the civilian government is breaking the country apart and then a Chinese race traitor and Barmese patriot general Ne Win seize power.

With a civilian government like Suu Kyi, you will soon see a Thailand style Islamo revolt, keeping ranting discrimination while keep cleansing Barmese. Su Kyi will be pussy and blame Barmese patriot for "human rights violation". She is a USA 007.

You guys do not have the wealth, the support of USA against Islamo, and you will get shit.

I think you have quite a warped view of things, Lux. We don't need military rule to contain Islamic revolt. Infact, the disdain for Muslims is actually the will of the people thus why DASSK is keeping quiet.

We are already fighting the 'islamo' and the democratic process is irrelevant to that.

Btw. Why do you think Ne Win is a race traitor? Do you think he would have been allowed to gain power with a pro-China agenda?

He betray Chinese and side Barmese. So I call him race traitor.

But he's not Chinese. He's a Burmese of part Chinese ancestry. In actuality, it was his political opponents who played up his heritage. I don't think you should consider him one of yours to consider him a traitor.

And he was such a terrible and brutal ruler that I can happily do without his 'loyalty'.
