So, why was Hitler bad, even he was giving them painless death without their concent?

Just to be clear, because OP doesn't make it so. This is not meant for any random depressed person who wishes to end it all but terminally ill/incurable disease etc sufferers .

Should people be afforded that that kind of mercy and be granted it when in such a state ? Should their loved ones be allowed to "pull the plug" in situations worse than in case the patient is still "around".

They do it to animals all the time, very painful for owners to let their pet go that way.

Very tough one.. I'd say one should be allowed to pull the plug/switch off the machines if it comes to that, but administering a lethal dose to put an end to their life here seems a bit.. well, don't have the heart for doing it.

I kind of lean toward, for example, stage X cancer patient, certain death soon, and in great pain.. maybe let them go ?

or, let them live out their karma without benefit of modern science and medicine and more seemingly "humane" options ?

it'll depend on others' tolerance to being witness to a loved one's pain too in case they have power of attorney to make that call.

We have Death with Dignity law, first started in Oregon, USA but now available in many other States and Canada for terminally ill patients who don't want to go through pain and suffering. General requirement is less than 6 months of expected life or extreme pain and suffering. It has been very popular though sparingly used.

Should be allowed in extreme cases, especially where doctors have also given their opinion. People ought to have some control over their life (and death).
