The Sudanese Air Force has taken delivery of its new Chinese-made FTC-2000 jets, the Sudanese Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 16 May.

The MoD said that a new squadron for the FTC-2000s had been officially inaugurated in a ceremony attended by the Major General Awad Khalafallah Marawi, the deputy chief of staff, and the Chinese military attaché.

It released photographs showing aircraft with numbers running from 1201 to 1206, indicating that all six FTC-2000s that Sudan ordered have been delivered.

The order was confirmed by Wang Wenfei, the director general of Guizhou Aircraft Industries Corporation (GAIC), in an interview published by China Aviation News on 3 November 2016.

Marketed by the Aviation Industries Corporation of China (AVIC), the FTC-2000 is the export variant of GAIC’s JL-9 two-seat supersonic turbojet-powered trainer.

Looks like JF-17's early model...

. . .
This indicates JF-17 is a Re-worked modified version of Mig-21 with BVRs and other goodies.

NO. This is what the JF-17 could have been. i.e. Super Sabre.

But I think it underwent a re-design process at some point because of the Indian Su-30MKI purchase.

Luckily for Pakistan, the Russians/Chinese used the defunct Mig-33 as an influence for the current JF-17.

Consequently, it is a more advanced design than a "souped-up J-7"

.
Should just invest in JF17 THUNDER

Its a shame we are not making sales to customers like Sudan , Iran , Turkey ........:pop:

Sudan just want a modernized, cheap, simple mechanical steering plane with decent maneuver that gives them training and BVR. They make the right choice.

According to the pictures released by the Sudanese Ministry of Defense on May 16, the Sudan has already received China's FTC-2000 trainer (JL-9 "Shanying" export type). According to the contract, the Sudan Air Force ordered six JL-9s, numbered from "1201" to "1206," which was the first time the CHINA JL-9 trainer was exported.

is a type of single-engine dual-seat supersonic plane with Guizhou Aerospace Industry Co., Ltd. who ,based on Guizhou JJ-7/FT-7,redesigned its aerodynamic shape, refitted turbojet-13 (WP-13) engine, and adopted a new cockpit design and integrated avionics system.

  • The aircraft model has excellent performance, simple maintenance, safety and reliability, and economical efficiency. As a traditional user of the MiG-21 and J-7 fighters, the Sultan Air Force should be able to use the JL-9 quickly.

  • It is worth noting that Guihang has spotted the market and modified the JL-9 to become a trainer for onshore leaping take-off training for naval carrier aircraft.

There are rumors that the JL-9 will undergo major improvements and even redesign the rear fuselage section to accommodate the training requirements for catapult takeoff and landing prevention. After all, aircraft carrier take-off and landing proficiency requires a lot of ups and downs, the aircraft's strength and longevity are consumed quickly, and cheap Shanying can greatly reduce the cost of training.

The JL-9 Mountain Eagle(Shanying) can take on advanced pilots, battle entry and tactical training, and has certain to air and to ground combat capabilities.
