JULY 20, 2020

Students from Pakistan were beaten by locals outside Bishkek, Abbas Said, one of students, told AKIpress.

A group of students from Pakistan were on picnic in the Koi-Tash hills outside Bishkek. A group of local men attacked the Pakistani students. One of students was hit and he fell on the ground injuring his head. Abbas tried to help his friend, but got his nose broken. He needs surgery now.

Abbas was one of volunteers working in daytime in-patient facility at School No. 95 in Bishkek. He could not come to his workplace for health reasons.

Loool that's reporting? Where is the story?

. . . .
This story was written by reporters from the AKIpress News Agency, which is a Kyrgyz news agency.
See the general website (https://akipress.com/) and the Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AKIpress_news_agency) for more information.

There is a public Facebook page of Pakistani students in Kyrgyzstan (https://www.facebook.com/groups/109197072963435/).
On this page (scroll down) you can see reactions from Pakistanis on what happened.

There is also video originally from an Instagram page which shows the aftermath of what happened.
I posted this video below.

Hope they are ok. Was it a random attack i.e. a group of idiotic so called 'men' looking for a target. Were they drunk?
I find Kazaks folk very friendly, brotherly etc.

I tried to read the comments on the public Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/109197072963435/) but some were in Urdu, I think, and Google Translate was not working. The ones that were in English merely described the event and only one said that it might had to do with racism / xenophobia:

Ali Arış

I'm just shocked that there is still racism against foreigners they were peacefully camping in nature and they were assaulted by locals. Even they were calling them брат (brother) .. The guy Ali Abbas who volunteered recently to help the locals in hospital for free was also one of the victims. My question is will authorities do something?

Apparently the video I posted above is from a Instagram page of a Kyrgyz fellow (I changed link to the video which I found on the Facebook page to the video from the original Instagram page).
And when I translated the comments in Google Translate, which did work, all Kyrgyz commenters condemned what had happened.

Two examples of comments:

Comment:
Мамбеты. Сволочи. Изверги. Наказать.
Translation:
Mambets. Bastards. Fiends. Punish.

A mambet is apparently a derogatory term that Kyrgyz people give to (young) people from rural areas.

Comment:
Нужно наказать их , ведь и наши соотечественники заграницей живут и к нам так не относятся зачем так позориться . Безграмотные и темные упыри
Translation:
We need to punish them, because our compatriots live abroad and do not treat us like that, why should we be so disgraced. Illiterate and dark ghouls

May be some silly fight for a girl.

Nothing of big consequence.

Many Kyrgyz on social media are condemning those guys. Seems to be an isolated incident due to misunderstanding probably.

Kyrgyzstan is our brother country and they are very nice people.

Hope it's investigated and justice done. These people are kind enough to volunteer and help the Kazakhs with covid

Kırgız, not Kazakh.
