Lahore—Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, has said that streetlights of six big cities of province including, Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Multan and Sialkot would be converted to solar system.
He said that all matters with the companies investing in energy projects would be settled in a very transparent manner and according to rules and regulations.
The Chief Minister said that all possible facilities would be provided to the companies investing in energy sector. He said that there is a vast scope of generating electricity through coal and solar system in Punjab. He said that energy sector was badly neglected during last five years and due to corruption, hindrances were faced in the implementation of projects.
He was addressing separate briefing meetings with the officials of Chinese companies, Three Gorges, China State Construction Company and ZTE today. Provincial Minister for Energy Ch. Sher Ali, Secretary Energy Usman Akhtar Bajwa, Vice Chairman Punjab Board of Investment and Trade Syed Maratab Ali and other concerned officials were also present on the occasion. Chief Executive Officer of China State Construction Company, Mr. Tan, CEO of ZTE Mr. Peng and Vice President Three Gorges Company Mr. Wang Shaofeng and their assistants attended the briefing meeting.
Shahbaz Sharif said that government wants to resolve energy crisis as soon as possible and the companies interested in setting up energy projects through coal and solar system should complete their preliminary work speedily so that practical work could be started at the earliest. He said that willingness of Chinese companies in investing in energy and infrastructure sectors is a good omen.
The Chief Minister said that negotiations with Chinese investors and companies during the recent visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to China have been very successful. He said that there is a vast scope of investment by foreign investors including that of China in Pakistan, especially Punjab.
Shahbaz Sharif said that government wants to generate low cost energy and the matters would be settled with those companies speedily which would give maximum concessions for this purpose. He said that there is a vast scope of launching solar power projects in south Punjab at Cholistan.
The Chief Minister stressed upon the officials of Three Gorges company to speedily complete solar projects in Bahawalpur and on-going 120MW and 750MW hydle projects in Taunsa and Krote, district Rawalpindi as these projects have already been delayed. The Chief Minister issued instructions to the concerned officials to resolve the problems being faced by the company in acquiring land.
The officials of the above said companies gave briefings to Chief Minister Punjab with regard to solar projects and power generating projects from coal. Matters regarding conversion of streetlights to solar system were discussed on the occasion. They also assured starting of practical work on the projects without any delay and completing their on-going projects speedily.
