The Chinese are well aware of the Indian-US nexus to curtail its wider trade and energy interests, the duo will go to any lengths to jeopardize the CPEC,CMEC and BRI programmes. Keeping their long term interests in mind the Chinese have FIRMLY decided to cut India down to size by increasing their maritime deployments in the Indian Ocean Region(IOR)littorals. India today from the LAC to the IOR has become China's main adversary, whether Indians want to admit it or not. The Indian Navy does not have the ability to match PLAN’s operational tempo in the IOR, with Critical gaps in combat capability and shrinking budgets IN is at the mercy of the PLAN.
Just like the South China Sea PLAN is in no mood to take any risks in the IOR. They have proactively modernised and built many ports ,that provide bases ,supplies and support to their ships and submarines deployed in IOR.
INDIAN LAND ENCIRCLEMENT
India is encircled by a growing ring of Chinese power and influence. To the north, garrisons, airfields and missile sites linked by modern road-rail networks underpin China’s dominant posture on the Tibetan plateau. Ominously, the Xining-Lhasa rail link is progressing towards Nepal, where China has made significant political inroads. To the east, China’s Yunan province will gain access to the Bay of Bengal via rail, highway and pipeline, linking it to the deep-water port being built by China at Kyaukpyu in Myanmar. On India’s western flank, (CPEC), will create access to the Arabian Sea from Xinjiang to the port of Gwadar via Gilgit-Baltistan.
INDIAN NAVAL ENCIRCLEMENT
A senior Chinese official was once quoted as saying: “China needs two carrier strike groups in the Western Pacific and two in the Indian Ocean. So we need at least five to six aircraft carriers.”
Following naval bases are being built/built to encircle India.
1)DJIBOUTI NAVAL BASE
Satellite pictures in May this year suggest China’s military base at Djibouti is being modernised. The facility, set up in 2017 as a logistics support unit, is being upgraded into a full-fledged naval base with a 1,120-feet pier that can berth Chinese warships, including the Liaoning aircraft carrier. The estimated area of the Chinese compound in Djibouti is 250,000 square feet. Surrounded by outer perimeter walls, the compound has watchtowers and underground quarters, which is capable of hosting about 10,000 troops.
2)MALDIVES NAVAL SITE
3)GWADAR PORT
China is on a drive to militarise Gwadar port. Recent satellite pictures show anti-vehicle berms, security fences, sentry posts and elevated guard towers inside the port, fuelling speculation of the construction of a main naval base!
4)COX BAZAAR SUBMARINE BASE
China is helping Bangladesh build a naval base at Cox Bazaar, including wharfs, barracks, ammunition depots, and a naval ship repair yard. It will also house Chinese Subs.
HAMBANTOTA NAVAL PORT
China has built a new harbour in Hambantota and modernised Colombo port for Sri Lanka. This port is regularly visited by PLAN ships.
MORE WORRIES FOR INDIA
a)To monitor IN, China has deployed a fleet of underwater drones in the IOR, and till date have made more than 3,400 observations. These Sea Wing gliders are a type of Uncrewed Underwater Vehicle (UUV) which can operate for months on end.
b)Increasing presence of PLAN warships in IOR has become a threat to India ,and has the potential to become war ,IN chief.
c) Chinese modernisation plans for the navies of Pakistan, Bangladesh ,Myanmar, Cambodia and Thailand is something that has also made the Indians sleepless. The recent Chinese sale of Submarines ,Frigates, Corvette and other naval hardware to these countries provides conclusive evidence of India’s “strategic encirclement”.
CONCLUSION
China has completely encircled India from all sides, they have effectively got the chicken by the neck. Any slight misadventure by the Indians will effectively end them in a state of beyond recognition.
