Straight shooting on the 1965 war.

. .
Because PA was Not expecting a counter offensive which started on September 6
ie a Three pronged 80 Mile wide front

Once India attacked ; Grand Slam was over ; from there on PA was on the defensive

They thought they had all the time to take Akhnur in their own time

. . .
Because a personal preference issue came up as more important than the future of Pakistan

Basically this. We can even say that if we to this day have the Kashmir issue then its due to that very moment and the blame should go to ayub. Its funny how such stupidity can turn the tables completely. The fall of akhnur could have opened so many venues. Indira got it right. We lacked the balls. Strategic thinking makes that simple move one of the biggest military blunders in the history of Pakistan. One can say what's done is done but that only applies if we have learned from it and I don't think we have.

I doubt all will get it.

Quite frankly it is something that should be taught in schools. This will actually help future military officers in learning how such small blunders can change the face of wars and how they must not be repeated.

Good that it was posted. When we talk about 1965 we only speak about the defensive war. We don't speak about the offensive on akhnur. This should be taught in schools. The entirety of it. How it began and where it went wrong rather than stories about white men on horses brandishing heavenly swords.

Indians held a pretty honest inquiry & introspective study into the 65 war & the least they did do with commanders who failed with insight was have them tender resignation from the force- in Pakistan many of these yes men or cowardly commanders ended up with medals and went onto to cause further damage at higher posts.

Exactly like Gen Yahya Khan, he was the guy that was sent to replace Gen Akhtar Hussain Malik when the victory was insight.

I believe that Yahya's reputation as a soldier was very good; it was his personal weaknesses that brought him down, besides having not an iota of political sensibility. It was the two or three days that he took to study the situation after taking over from Malik that saved the day for us.

Well i am not sure about his reputation before but nowadays he is not very liked.
