1: POF should develop a modernised MP-5 variant chambered in 5.7mm ammunition. When equipped with a pic rail, front grip, a red dot and a suppressor, POF can offer a hard hitting modern-ish weapon for most CQB applications. FN 5.7 round has excellent velocity and penetration characteristics. This can serve as an excellent alternative to bulkier CQB rifles that limit an operators movement in confined spaces. Production of FN 5.7 round at POF will be ideal. It will also mean that hk tooling used to produce MP5 will be Repurposed to develop and produce "POF 57" with excellent export potential among LEAs overseas.

2: Upgrade PSR-1 and AZB DMRs with integrally suppressed barrels, forward assist etc. These rifles are to be used between 400m to 1000m envelope, putting the shooter at risk of exposure due to non suppressed weapon. Production of Sniper ammo M118 etc at POF will help. These are excellent adaption of G-3 Rifle, they have further upgrade potential with integrally suppressed barrel, accurisation and TI sights. Small, incremental improvements will result in a highly versatile weapon.

3: LSR is a promising weapon, but it needs to be chambered in .338LM rather than 308 Win. It also needs a much improved barrel, flash hider and suppressor option. It has to offer a token upgrade on existing weapons, that will be the 338 round. Rest of the weapon is pretty decent and within acceptable standards. POF won't be able to sell LSR to the Armed Forces when they already have much better 308 Sniper rifles in service.

4: Develop a box fed and belt fed "portable" ultra light machine gun, based on the G-3 platform, much like the HK-21 and HK-23 albeit with modernised accessories, TI sights, stocks, backpack mounted belt feed, and rail systems. This "portable" weapon will fill the gap between a G3 and an MG3. In patrol configuration, this weapon will be powerful tool in the hands of long range patrol operators, working on COIN operations, especially in mountainous terrain. Paramilitary forces like FC, Rangers will like such a weapon as carrying around an MG3 is a challenge and Russian PKMs etc aren't good enough.

5: Get localised production for TP-9 Combat Pistols from Canik Turkey. They are good value for money, even against the Glocks. PDWs are very important for CT, COIN operators.

PS: These are personal observations, having time with some of these weapons. With new weapons contracts in a limbo, I think these steps will make POF more competitive locally and in the export markets.

What do you think?

You are asking for too much from an organization that is still stuck in 80s. We do not have the molds nor do we have proper methods for treatment of the polymers. In this case a much easier solution would be to import Canik TP9 like they did with Sarsilmaz ST9 & B6. Even at 40k a piece it is a bargain

They were able to make a potent weapon such as LSR because tools from Steyr assembly line were used to make adjustment to the already made 308 barrels. You know better than me that LSR is using Steyr barrels with imported Action & Stock kit....rechambering this rifle to 338 will require new dies & tools to be brought in, the rifle will have to be redesigned completely. Is PoF willing to go such length ?

A over haul of POF is required. Thinking at the top needs to change. In the 90's Turkish small arms industry was just starting, but now it stands toe to toe with its western counterparts. We need to collaborate with Turkish companies and need to learn from expertise.

The only way Armed Forces will buy the LSR is if it comes with 338 capabilities and a steady supply of locally made 338 ammo. The imported ammo costs 4000 rs a shot. Problem is that LSR comes in the same category of 762 sniper rifles that Army already has. By offering 338 capability, LSR will cross the performance threshold of even the 50BMG at extended ranges.

Good news is that LSR is not in serial production so far, because its not won a contract yet. I hope POF makes the necessary changes to the LSR platform. With Indians fielding 338 at LoC the need factor is present.

Hi,

I have yet to see a weapon by the POF that has an extremely high quality fit / finishing---.
