SSIK Meeting: Atak-II program officially kicked off

The new heavier and more advanced Atak-II project is in critical design phase and matured enough to be revealed into public. This strategic program is also taken into meeting agenda in last SSIK meeting held in this afternoon and agreed to sign a deal with TAI to make ongoing efforts official. SSB minister announced that new helicopter Atak-II will be introduced into public in a short time.

and Roketsan CIRIT 70mm laser guided rocket and MIZRAK Anti Tank Missile

that means ATAK-II will be almost 100% indigenous from electronics to rotor technology ,, from weapon systems to engine

only the US,Russia,China,Germany-France and Turkey in the world

Italian AW-129 uses American weapon systems and Rolls Royce engine and BAE Systems IEWS AN/ALQ-144A infrared jammer and chaff and flare decoy dispensers and RALM-101 laser warning system

also Honeywell FLIR and infrared night-vision system (HIRNS)
also The pilot’s integrated helmet and display sighting system (IHADS) by Honeywell

But still MTOW less then AH-Z and Apache. Why not develop equivalent to Apache?

ATAK II is ~100% Turkish
  1. better armour protection
  2. more payload what means more missiles and 20mm
  3. more fuel storage
  4. can fly longer ranges
  5. stronger eninge
  6. better radars

Maybe T-129 ATAK fulfills Pakistani requirements...

It takes time to mature and certify a helicopter. ATAKII is a 6-10 year project incl engine and components development. While ATAKI is certified and approved by Pakistani pilots.. first delivery if all is going well will happen soon to Pakistan..

But still MTOW less then AH-Z and Apache. Why not develop equivalent to Apache?

It'd be more expensive.. ATAKII will be equivalent to AH-1Z, but far more modern..

ATAKII will have similar avionics to T625

Hopefully Pakistan wil go for these.


Pakistan will take delivery of Atak-1B2 helicopters which is the latest variant of T-129 Atak. The delivery of Atak1B2 variant will commence for Turkish Army as well. After delivery of 30 Atak1B2 helicopters completed, I think Pakistan and Turkey will proceed cooperation over Atak2 platforms.

  • Atak-1 is a 5t class attack helicopter. Atak Phase-2 aims to improve the weapon and sensor payload with a few design changes. In the mid of next year, Atak Phase-2 will join into inventory.
  • There are 10t class attack helicopters developed by some states and Atak-II will be the same league with 10t class. SSB evaluates benefits of heavier Atak-2 with improved protection and fire power compared with Atak-1.
  • We are developing the turboshaft engine of Atak-1 and T-625 helicopters. Continuation of turboshaft engine development projects, A new and more powerful domestic turbo shaft engine will power up Atak-2 helicopters as well.
