Sri Lanka's 950,000th tourist arrives

Marking the maximum number of tourists who visited Sri Lanka this year the 950,000thtourist arrived at the Katunayake International Airport, yesterday (17).

Accordingly a Polish woman named Agtha Dziekan was named the 950,000th tourist who arrived in the country with her husband Ku Jawa.

To celebrate this occasion the Tourism Promotion Bureau has gifted the couple with a three day complimentary stay at any hotel in the country of their choice along with a tour to visit Sri Lanka’s places of tourist attractions.

Alleging that Tamil women in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts in northern Sri Lanka were being forced to marry Sri Lankan Army personnel, DMK leader M. Karunanidhi on Monday asked the Union government to ascertain the facts and take it up with the neighbouring country.

In a statement, Mr. Karunanidhi said students of Jaffna University were arrested and tortured in prison by the Army for observing “heroes’ day” recently.

“The mere mention of the name Yazh (short for Yazhppanam or Jaffna) provokes the Sinhalese. Tamil scholars were attacked in the Jaffna World Tamil Conference and the Jaffna University library was burnt down,” he said and wanted India’s intervention to stop the incidents.

...I am no fan of Karunanidhi ....but lets us just compare facts.


Karunanidhi is a well established leader of a state (TN) with a population of 72,138,958

LS president is a leader of a state with a population of 20,869,000

Karunanidhi has dealt with more problems and have provided solutions for more people, than SL president would do in his lifetime.

So in terms of Leadership and Credibility, Karunanidhi has a lot more than SL president.
