May 27, New Delhi: Narendra Modi, on his first day in office as the Prime Minister of India, held bilateral discussions with the leaders of South Asian countries including Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
President Rajapaksa was scheduled to call on Modi at 10.30 am this morning.
In a formal felicitation message to the new Prime Minister yesterday, President Rajapaksa said he was confident that the warm and friendly relations that have long existed between India and Sri Lanka will continue to be strengthened and consolidated under his able stewardship.
"I keenly look forward to working with you in close cooperation to realise this goal," the President said.
Prime Minister Modi also met Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai this morning for one-on-one talks.
