In July 2016, Louise and I spent just over two weeks traveling through Sri Lanka. We started our trip in Colombo and made our way East to Dambulla, Sigiryia and Kandy. We visited the ancient city of Polonnaruwa and were lucky enough to see hundreds of Elephants while on Safari in Minneriya National Park.

We then headed south by train from Kandy to Ella. We had read that traveling by train in Sri Lanka would be a highlight, and we definitely weren’t disappointed. The views were breathtaking traveling through the hill country. Ella is a small town nestled high in the mountains with some amazing hills and mountains to climb and well worth a few days visit.

We finished off our holiday in Sri Lanka with some chill out time in the surf towns of Mirissa and Unawatuna. We were worried the weather would be bad that time of year down South but we had nothing but sunshine to finish our trip to Sri Lanka in 2016.

I shot this video entirely on a Canon 80D and a GoPro Hero 4 Black edition. All the shots are handheld as I lost my tripod on the third day. This was my first time experimenting with hyperlapse shots too. Edited in Final Cut Pro X. The song I used is ‘Divenire’ by Ludovico Einaudi.

I couldn’t recommend Sri Lanka enough. Having spent time in India, South East Asia, Africa and South America, Sri Lanka ranks right up there with my favorite backpacking spots in the world. It is wonderfully cheap; there is accommodation to suit any budget. The food is delicious and the people are among the friendliest I have met in the world.

Hope you enjoy!
