What's new

Sri Lanka through outside eyes

@Gibbs Srilanka is taking a huge share of Kerala tourism......... You know what the other day there was advertisement of a casino from colombo in cochin FM radio...... When i heard the advt i was like :o:

The previous govt was going to develop a gaming hub in Colombo specifically targeting the Indian and Middle Eastern Markets, But those plans were shelved by the new govt due to popular opposition mainly by the powerful Buddhist clergy

I think it was short sighted decision.. Would have made a huge impact in both FDI and tourism.. But i have a feeling that they might rethink that in a few years time

This is just one such project by Crown Casino's

At the moment there are about a dozen mid size gaming complexes running in Colombo that attracts a lot of Filipino, Indian and Chinese gamblers

This was also going to be part of the gaming complex but since the change of govt they have reintegrated it in to a Hotel/Entertainment project due to to be open in 2018

. . . .
( India -Bangladesh -Myanmar - Thailand ) highways will help to boost tourism sector coz tourists from India and Thailand are highly contributed in our numbers.. ( roughly 30% of total )..
:cray::cray::cray:

I think Bangladesh would be a great addition to that list

How are the tourism infrastructure there mate ? Accommodation, travel and excursions ? Especially outside Dhaka.. There is very little info even on travel forums

Bhutan, Burma and Bangladesh.. Should call them selves the big B's :-).. Would definitely be in my bucket list

Syhlet , Cox's bazar and Chittagong regions have best tourism infrastructures.
check Beautiful Bangladesh thread in Bangladesh section, you will get some ideas.

@Gibbs Myanmar still has the mystery factor as they were closed out for a long time. SL has more traditional tourism industry. Still, its worthy of my bucket list.

I assume after all that tumultuous civil war, SL is perfectly on track to be a developed nation in its own right. In my personal opinion (note: no offense to India) rather than being a "smaller" version of India, SL is a much more "cleaner" version.

Some call it "India light", Culturally similar without the crowds and chaos, But you'd be surprised how different it is from India as well, From life styles of the natives, music, food to general outlook on life itself.. Most probably because of it's more laid back islander vibe and such a diverse cultural melting pot for such a small land mass

Not filmed by a foreign tourist but still a stunning visual

True also, Sri Lanka market it self on Eco tourism, And draws tourists that wants to get away from mass tourist places for more eco friendly luxury resorts, The island pride itself on the Boutique resort concept, Smaller high luxury hotels and villa's catering to high spending tourists from Europe, Asia and the America's.. These places go upwards of US $600 a night.. They strive to keep it a somewhat unspoiled destination

Also it's become a top slot for global cruise lines

Some call it India light.. :D

I can't wait to visit Sri Lanka......I love the ppl, the land, the culture. I always wonder what If India had remained Buddhist! One day, one day. Anyway, any particular places to stay and visit that are reasonable in price? Not rich or poor...
