Sri Lanka stamp remembers Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh

Apr 29, 2014 (LBO) - Sri Lanka issued a stamp commemorating Ho Chi Minh, a revolutionary communist leader that led the country to independence from the French who is reputed to have visited the island several times.

"This is another demonstration of the time honoured relationship and friendship between Sri Lanka and Vietnam," Hanoi's ambassador to Colombo Ton Sinh Thanh said.
"He has visited Sri Lanka several times during his revolutionary life. We believe that the issuance of the Ho Chi Minh stamp would be another step to promote bilateral co-operation and promote more people to people and business between our two countries."

Ambassador Thanh said the first agreement signed between Sri Lanka after the country was re-unified in 1975 was a postal deal.

Born Nguyễn Sinh Khủng, Ho Chi Minh travelled and worked in France and became associated with French socialists and communists.

He had also travelled to Britain the US in the early 1900s and lived and worked in those countries. On his travels the ships passed through Colombo.
On at least one occasion he had stayed at Colombo's Colonial Hotel, in front of the main railway station in the capital Colombo on his way to Paris, senior minister for human resources, DEW Gunasekera said.

Minister Gunasekera said along with Mahathma Gandhi, the Vietnamese leader was one of few international political figures to be featured in Sri Lankan stamps.

Ho Chi Minh was born on May 05, 1890. He died in 1969 during the Vietnam War where the South Vietnam was backed by the United States, before the country was re-unified.

Nice to hear people from many countries still love our great leader after such a long time from the day he gone away.
He's so great, indeed ...

Ho Chi Minh is Vietnamese patriot first, he was not a dictator when he could do that with communism regime in hand. thank for him that we go ahead to the democracy even though slowly.
