Feb 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy has apprehended three Indian nationals attempting to illegally migrate to Sri Lanka by a dinghy, along with two Sri Lankans on Friday, 14th February.

According to the Navy Media Unit, a naval craft patrolling in the sea area North of Talaimannar has spotted a suspicious dinghy plying in the seas. Upon inspection, the group of people who were attempting to illegally migrate to Sri Lanka via sea route, was arrested.

Among the apprehended persons are a 39 year old male, a 33 year old female, a 07 year old girl and 02 Sri Lankans who ferried the Indians by a dinghy.

The apprehended Sri Lankan suspects have been identified as residents of Pesalai in Mannar, aged 36 and 44.

The arrested illegal migrants and the locals have been escorted to the naval base SLNS Thammanna in Talaimannar. They were administered first aid and necessary medical facilities by the Navy.

Subsequently, the suspects along with the dinghy were handed over to the Talaimannar Police for onward investigation.

Ok now every week a bunch of illegal Indians get caught. This happens while Sri Lanka is still a poor country. I wonder what would the future look like. I thought everyone's dream in the region is to pole vault into the superpower so what's going on here?

Navy arrests 11 Indian fishermen for engaging in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan waters

Feb 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy has arrested 11 Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu for allegedly breaching the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and illegally fishing in Sri Lankan waters.

Naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command, during a special operation conducted in the seas North of Analathivu Island arrested the11 Indian fishermen along with their three trawlers on Saturday (15).

The apprehended fishermen and the trawlers were escorted to SLNS Elara in Northern Naval Command, the Navy Media Unit said.

After a medical check-up, the Indian fishers are due to be handed over to Assistant Director of Fisheries-Jaffna through the Department of Costal Conservation for onward legal action. The seized trawlers have been anchored at SLNS Elara.

As a result of frequent patrol carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy for protecting the fish and marine resources belongs to Sri Lanka, illegal activities through sea routes have been reduced and SL Navy vigilantly acts to secure the marine resources and local fisher folk, the Navy said.
