Sri Lanka in talks with China over highway projects

I may have supported MS for a week or two but after they started messing with investment projects, I stopped it. And if you read past posts on this forum, you will notice that I have been supporting MR while @Saradiel was saying how Sri Lankan economy being dragged into oblivion.

@samv BTW many of these expressways were initially planned by Ranil.

Well I admit I am not happy with the decision now and i did not judge RW correctly, But still i share my criticism about MR economic policies.

Apart from economics, the manner RW plays with our constitution and the international affairs worry me a lot. And of course this gover is not wasting public money like MR did, but now we lack the stability and authoritative style MR brought economic development.

Bwahahahaha!!!

Ranil uses a helicopter to travel from Temple Trees to Pannipitiya (15km), and also makes use of no less than 3 luxury cars and a jeep. Saving the people's money the yahapalanaya way. Maru ne?

Not wasting public money?? Yeah, saving public money by letting the capital city go to waste and stopping infrastructure projects.

I think having a authoritarian rule will not go well in Sri Lanka anymore, this is the 21st centuray and doing that is really hard.
It is MR's fault for not reforming the country after 2010. There is no need to keep a authoritarian rule after the war ended.
While Gota did clean up Colombo the MoD shouldn't continue controlling the UDA and CMC. As soon as the current govt came they de-militarized but it wasn't ready and it collapsed.

Now the govt is reforming those organizations so they can work efficiently without Military interference(That is how it should work)

The Executive presidency is not suitable for Sri Lanka anymore and we need a new constitution.

In the end MR was a great guy who got power hungry and almost ruined the country

And it's going to stay that way now.

SL has already progressed a lot and leads the region in development, as proven by many socio-economic indicators, the numbers are impressive.

I have confidence on SL bros to continue the good trend!

Sri Lanka is actually going backwards. The capital city which used to be clean is now dirty and filled with garbage. Infrastructure projects - including Chinese investment projects - have ground to a halt. The new administration under Ranil Wickremasinghe is full to the brim with corrupt and power hungry politicians who spend their whole day doing nothing.

Mahinda's authoritarian rule did good for SL as well as bad. Now we have a total dictatorship the difference is western media call this as a democracy.

It is not what century we live in that dictates our government style should be but the problems we face as a country and the current status of the country.

What reformations should have MR done. I think given the situation he did a pretty good job.

So you too agree this gover made a mess. When transforming SL's cities especially colombo (or any city in 3rd world) extra effort, extra organisations are needed, you cannot go by the usual 1st world maintenance style...Some one need to do a big job and gota did it...

The very reason gota did a pretty good job was he was rather committed to what he did..and removing pavement hawkers was a big achievement in Colombo and u can see how UNP reversed the things. Pavement hawkers and shanty areas in city are UNP's votes , so they wont go against them...that is why you cant expect gota's efficiency from UNP.

Now the govt is reforming those organizations so they can work efficiently without Military interference(That is how it should work)
There is no military interference. To begin with it was civil defence force that was put to use. The civil defence force was brought up to defend the border villages during war, but after war these units were put to better use. That is what Gota did. That is not military and certianly not a bad idea.

It is the executive presidency that protects SL, without it SL can even disintegrate.

The executive presidency almost destroyed Sri Lanka. I was a supporter of MR till the end of 2014 and I thought that authoritarian system could help us like Singapore but that is WRONG

Sri Lanka's only authoritarian government that could have developed SL was JR and he messed things up.

Sri Lanka escaped from MR too quickly, if MR won in Presidential elections and took a another term there may not be any hope left for Sri Lanka and after that propel would have realized the mistake
we all saw at what path MR was going.

Every single state cooperation and the entire diplomatic service was run by Rajapaksa's relatives.
The SriLankan airlines was making millions of losses and it was rising rapidly while the Shiranthi Rajapaksa's brother was having affairs with air hostesses and bloating the management with unqualified staff because of political ties alone

His sons were wasting state money while the BBS was creating trouble.

It would have been better to see your views on the Executive Presidency when another civil war breaks out.
It isn't hard to see that SL was on a similar path to Somalia

The current government is not best , people always have unrealistic hopes. I myself ridiculed the "Good governance" and "Maithri Palanaya" because they cannot be achieved 100% but this government is certainly better than the old one
