:woot::woot: We cannot expect everything from MR. Besides we have to sacrifice certain things for the greater good of the country. You might pissed off by what I said but we are not US or Europe. We still need a long way to go.
Greater good? WTF??? Wasting billions of money for stupid useless projects so that he can stick his name on the banner is for greater good? He has been borrowing so much money from China for investments that don't generate profit. How the hell on earth would a 2nd international airport in the middle of nowhere supposed to bring anything good for SL? SL is a tiny country and the existing airport has too much space and there you go MR made a 2nd airport under his name.

People like you and your counterparts on the other side should stop political party/personality worship and work for the interests of the country. If you see something is going wrong, you should demand the government to make things right and in the next election, vote against them. Shouting about apocalypse is not going to help.

First of all MR didn't get loans to buy food rations. He bought the loans for development. The same projects you called useless are now generating profits and the current government even acknowledge the fact.

You want to talk about Mattala's importance? It is always beneficial to have a backup airport in case something happens to one on them. Other than that Mattala was developed not only to be a backup but also to be a tourist hub airport. So it is useless to argue how viable Mattala is unless the tourist potential is developed around Tangalla-Monaragala-Batticollo area and the proposed development of Hambantota as a industrial center.

I don't worship any politicians. Though I have a high respect for some people in the political landscape like MR, GR and Wimal. That is not necessarily mean I worship them. And indeed I will vote against the present government in the next election.

Sri Lanka is turning into pile of slime ever since MS became president and Ranil became PM.

- Infrastructure development has grind to a halt. Anti Chinese slogans raised and Chinese infrastructure investments brought to a halt. Sri Lanka's biggest investment to date - ever - the Colombo Port City lies lifeless.
- Indian fishermen get to poach at will in Sri Lankan waters with no consequence.
- Trincomalee oil tanks to be handed over to India with a song and a dance.
- The economy is on a downward spiral with international agencies voicing concern over a subsidy filled budget concocted just to win votes.
- Colombo which used to be so clean is turning into an eyesore with garbage dumped everywhere. Good work Ranil!
- Sri Lankan soldiers are being arrested on spurious reasons while people who claimed the LTTE were the "sole representatives" of the Tamils and never condemned their terrorism get to openly commemorate the death of Prabhakaran.
- Protests in front of court complexes in Colombo are banned.
- Police stations and court complexes in northern Sri Lanka are attacked at will with no consequences.
- A Sri Lankan minister who is part of the current government gets to freely destroy one of Sri Lanka's biggest national parks and settle his flock with no consequence
- The biggest fraud ever committed and the man behind it is found "not guilty" by a committee appointed by Ranil - continues on with no consequence.
- Ravi Karunanayke another corrupt asshole is found "not guilty" and gets to walk free.
- Ranil appoints loyalist Royal college attendees whenever he wants.
- Ranil, Harsha screamed about "political appointees" to the foreign service - now they are sending their own political appointees to the foreign service.

Well, no surprise here, that's south Asia and their paranoia for you, reason your region is and will remain the most backward /poorest /least integrated region in Asia and the world for a long time to come.

I suppose that's a heated debate on internal politics, I can comment on that as an outsider, and suppose it isn't unique to SL.

If looking from a perspective of track recods, SL has a unique and exceptional performance in the region, say per capita GDP is more than double of regional average (close to ASEAN average), while other counterparts about the same level. The same is observed in say HDI and other socio-economic indicators.

Well yes, but as i said before Sri Lanka is only 'looking ' better off in the region because it's neighbours are even more poorer /backward. Lol not because it has achieved anything commendable per se. It's just that all it's mainland neighbours are at the bottom of development indices in the world. :agree: take sri Lanka and put them in East Asian, South America, Oceania or even SEA/North Africa. they will at best be among the poorest/average in living standards /development. :agree:

But you are right though, compared to south Asian standards Sri Lanka is indeed performing quite well /wealthy

In terms of stage of development, by now SL is about the same as ASEAN average, or Indonesia. Given they have been drag by years of civil war, that's quite remarkable.

Whether SL get back their ASEAN membership or not (they turned down sometimes ago), it's useful to gauge SL's socio-economic growth against ASEAN countries instead. SL's human capital, as reflected by many indicators, is a huge treasure.

China's huge investments (check my previous post) is a testimony to our strong confidence on SL's future, not just empty honey words. I suggest you and your mates in UK can go & check their latest progress, put up a new perspective and join hands in building up SL, it will be a rewarding exercise.

Sri Lanka is being turned into The Turd of the Indian Ocean under the new Ranil-run administration.

Nice statement as usual my man. However why will we invest in a country that can stop a multi billion dollar project any time without prior notice /consultation, especially when the contract has aalready been signed? ?Lool unfortunately our investors /businessmen are not as risk averse as yours. Lol there are several other more promising /sane countries in Asia who won't stop a multi billion dollar project because of a change of regime. Lol

South Asia has so many barriers to investment, from lack of adequate infrastructure /supply chain, to an undisciplined /uneducated workforce, political paralysis, insecurity, stringent labour laws etc etc. I think if they work on solving this issues, then they will begin attractive huge amount of investment from the West /Japan which until now has been flowing largely towards only towards SEA and China.for this, they have to start trading /integrating more among themselves first, this will create an impetus for others to join in. HERE I think India ought to lead the way and set an example as its the largest country in the region, instead of itself being paranoid about trade and investment from it's 'rivals ':disagree:

Thanks.

Well from a pure investment perspective risk/hedge management and reward calculation are always homework before implementation, if strategic value added (e.g. SL's geopolitical position), synergy effect (e.g. echoing other investments, supply chain) or portfolio management (e.g. dollar/asset appropriation across a international portfolio) are factored in then maybe we see a picture.

Surprises are for those unprepared, so let's have confidence on the professionals who sort out the details of implementation, but before that, let all be confident on a vision that SL will prosper!

We are already working to integrate the region as we speak Highways & Railways are being built to connect with Bangladesh & mynmaar (we are already connected to Bhutan & Nepal

He is exaggerating things and you fall for it????

If the previous president carried out the relevant procedures with the projects then nothing would have happened to it. Only project that was stopped was port city. The rest is going on. Yesterday a new section of an expressway was opened for test drive and will be opened for public june 20 and it was built China.

Well, I'm not really exaggerating bro. If you get what where I'm going. What I mean is that perception matters alot, sometimes even more than reality. If Sri Lanka is seen as a country who can't be trusted /flouts trade deals and contracts, which sane investor will come and risk his money on this country meanwhile there are several other SEEA contries yearning /opening up for investment?

So you see, it's not so much to do with Sri Lanka suspending only the port city and reviewing others, it's more about the perception /image that such a move has on foreign investors. So every country has to always avoid a negative perception especially when it comes to investment (since there is tough competition among countries to attract investment) , else they might nose many investment opportunities that will otherwise have gone to them. :bounce:

Well said.

On the same like what kind of dumb *** PM and ministers would bad mouth - in public - a country's largest investor? That's right, Sri Lanka's PM.

China, IMO should just pull out all its investment in the country until it can get guarantees from the new administration that they aren't just going to turn around and sabotage projects.
