Leading Bangla daily newspaper The Shamokal on April 29 published news titled 'Is there any newspaper named Sri Lanka Guardian', where the Bangla daily quoted Bangladeshi intelligence agency stating there is no such newspaper named Sri Lanka Guardian published from Sri Lanka.

The Bangla daily also claimed that the Sri Lanka Guardian does not also have any online edition. Daily Shamokal further said, the Sri Lankan High Commission in Dhaka confirmed about non existence of any newspaper named Sri Lanka Guardian.

It said, a racket is continuing publishing anti-government propaganda using pseudonyms, thus attacking the ruling Bangladesh Awami League. It [Sri Lanka Guardian] also published similar reports after the Pilkhana Massacre in February 2009. A senior diplomat at Bangladesh High Commission in Sri Lanka also reportedly confirmed Daily Shamokal about non existence of any newspaper named The Sri Lanka Guardian in Sri Lanka.

Bangladeshi intelligence agencies are investigating the issue of publication of a number of reports in Sri Lanka Guardian against Bangladesh. It is initially learnt that Bangladesh correspondent of this news portal is one William.

Self-styled 'human rights ambassador' William Nicholas Gomes is the Bangladesh correspondent of The Sri Lanka Guardian. It is interesting to note that, the questioned Sri Lanka Guardian selected a non-journalist like William as their 'correspondent' while William Nicholas Gomes is running a website at www.williamgomes.org, which is continuing mostly false propaganda against Bangladesh. In the ABOUT page of this website it is written: "William Nicholas Gomes, a Bangladeshi journalist, human rights activist and author was born on 25 December, 1985 in Dhaka. As an investigative journalist he wrote widely for leading European and Asian media outlets. He is also active in advocating for free and independent media and journalists' rights, and is part of the free media movement, Global Independent Media Center – an activist media network for the creation of radical, accurate, and passionate telling of the truth."

William Nicholas Gomes also has published the image of the Press Accreditation Card issued by Press Information Department in Bangladesh [Accreditation Card No. 3127]. Source at Special Branch of Bangladesh Police told Weekly Blitz that, the so-called Press Accreditation Card issued to William Gomes is false. When asked as to how a person is displaying the image of such "false card" on the web and why no legal action has been initiated against William Nicholas Gomes for forging such government documents, the Special Branch source said, "William Gomes is not residing in Bangladesh. It was learnt that he is currently living in Nepal under the protection of some leftist groups. He also is involved in various forms of crimes including trafficking in Bangladeshi women."

William Nicholas Gomes is an ex-Muslim, who converted into Christianity few years back and was working as an employee with CARITAS under the leadership of Rev. Father Tim and Sister Rosaline Costa. While he was working in CARITAS, Nicholas Gomes tried to steal information from the computers in that organization, and lately he was sacked from CARITAS being caught red-handed while stealing information.

At this stage, William Gomes started claiming himself as a 'Pastor', and tried to blackmail Rev. Father Tim and his organization by twisting the story of one Mary Mondal. At that time, William collected reasonable amount of money from various individuals by selling the story of Mary Mondal.

It is apprehended that, William Gomes is in fact an infiltrated Islamist agent in the society, whose main mission is to malign various secularist forces and anti-Jihadist forces in Bangladesh. He also is conspiring against the current secularist government as well as promoting pro-Pakistan ideologies in Bangladesh. William Gomes is also is a known anti-US and anti-Israel element and has been consistently spreading anti-US and anti-Semitic venom through various websites, mostly in vernacular language.

Not a fan, its just sad and frustrating to be honest, to see anti-India threads running into tens of pages, based on not much but this stupid uncorroborated propaganda.

I really thought Bangladeshis were smarter than that, but apparently not. You only need to look at some of the recent threads started by Munshi and written by this "Jessica Fox". tsk tsk.

Propaganda is integral part of politics! To be honest, Anti-Hasina group have mastered the act in recent times! Its just pakistan factor and war criminals, kept Hasina alive!

List of newspapers in Sri Lanka - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

1.But the list states the Sri Lanka Guardian exists both as a general newspaper as well as a news website.

2. Regarding RAW organizing the Peelkhana Massacre with the connivance of BAL, we do not need to go to SL. We have too many witnesses, proofs and records in BD itself waiting to expose once BAL is ousted.

The difference between the two is - There is truth in what hardcore AL says, albeit cliched, but Jamatis engage in unadulterated lies(and get caught not being very bright folks).

Sri Lnka Guardian is like any other electronic newspaper. One can click its webesite and find its existence like any other e-paper. The present Bd govt is trying to disprove a RAW trained commando news on this paper by claiming its non-existence. However, in reality, it exists. I can attest to it like million others. So, I have every reason to believe the AL/RAW commando news is true, and AL govt is trying to hide it by intentionally expressing doubts babout the validity of this newspaper.

AL govt should sincerely demand compensation from that paper if it thinks the news was not substantive.

If it's not registered in Sri Lanka, then it's no better than random 2 bit blogs of rupeenews variety. Anyone can write whatever sh!t they want in interweb, doesn't make it authentic newspaper.

What about this Bangladeshi news from ETV and the expert opinion?

Most of the Bangladesh related news has been posted as editorial.

True or not that is a different issue.

Can anyone tell me whether Weekly Blitz is a registered newspaper of Bangladesh?

Govt should try to disprove the news itself. Failing to do so, it is trying to prove the non-existence of the Sri Lanka Guardian.

Sri Lanka Guardian

| by Nilantha Ilangamuwa ( April 30, 2012, New Delhi, Sri Lanka Guardian) The time has come to respond from our side on an ongoing debate in Bangladesh over our recently published articles which have created fresh political ideological debate while questioning the present regime in the country. As usual, like other South Asian nations, the Dhaka government is playing foul game to hide their corrupt ferocious acts against their own citizens. Why are there so many distracting questions about the Sri Lanka Guardian, instead of conducting genuine investigations, based on facts, on the problems we surfaced through our reports? What we have done is to directly say to the “ostrich”, hiding its head in sand ‘it doesn’t work; your nudity is showing in public. Just lift your head out and face the need to restore freedom, justice and fraternity in the country, within genuine institutional framework. One of the local language daily newspapers based in Dhaka has carried the story while quoting a source of the Sri Lankan High Commissioner’s office in Bangladesh, saying that the Sri Lanka Guardian doesn’t exist. It seems that the “source”, told the paper there is no such paper published from Colombo. The person’s claim is correct in term of wording as we have been operating from abroad since 2009 due to the present regime’s policy on freedom of expression. Otherwise the “White Van” is likely to solve the problems in its way, similar to how the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Bangladesh acts. But the person seems to not recognize that well known Sri Lankan diplomats have been contributing to the Sri Lanka Guardian since its inception in August 2007. We are not going to talk now, about our (Sri Lankan) diplomats; how they were appointed and how they are working towards weakening our foreign policy. The Dhaka government and/or its allied news agency do not need to fear the Sri Lanka Guardian, but their own inhuman activities against unarmed innocent civilians and dissenters. What we have facilitated is to highlight factual reality in the country while allowing few contributors including pro- Awami league writers, who have different political ideologies to the Government, to share their wisdom with wider public through their contributions to the Sri Lanka Guardian. Recently Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina soughed in public that no one has the right to play with people’s fate. Unfortunately she and the others who are benefiting from her side are portraying themselves as being innocent on the stage but one sees an alien behavior behind the screen of “patriotism” and “national security”. In other words, the present regime of Bangladesh is using their fellow citizens as the medium to get rid of their personal banalities. There is documented evidence that 31 persons have been killed extra judicially in the first three months of this year. It has been reported, that among the 31 persons killed extra judicially, 26 were killed in ‘crossfire/ encounters/ gun fights’. Among the deceased, 17 were allegedly killed by the RAB, three by the Police, two jointly by the RAB and the Police, and four jointly by the RAB and the Coast Guards. Torture in custody persists while forced disappearances are continuing. During the three months (January-March) 2012, three persons were allegedly tortured to death. It has been reported a Dhaka University teacher was beaten by RAB, which is the rough murderous unit setup by the regime in the name of national security. As we compare, there are more similarities between the White Van syndrome in Sri Lanka and the RAB in Bangladesh which is reported to have tortured and killed dozens of people. Ms. Hasina, this is real nudity of your ‘alien (barbarian) governance against your own people, while claiming that no one has the right to play with people’s fate. This is a tragic joke. We stand with the people of Bangladesh and we will continuously publish balanced factual reports on the country as well as other countries if required. As declared in our mission statement, we adhere to the journalistic values of honesty, courage, fairness, balance, independence, credibility and diversity, giving no priority to commercial or political considerations over professional ones. It would be surprising if the Dhaka government decides to block the Sri Lanka Guardian for its viewers in Bangladesh, as did the paranoid Sri Lankan government for our dear readers in Sri Lanka. Killing the messenger is popular tactic used by many failed governments trying to stay in power. However, it has been proven that our reports hit the nail on the head and expose failure of the government’s puny dopey politics against the people. Like the present regime in Sri Lanka, the Dhaka government also is following what, the Bangla proverb says, “The deer has enemies because of its flesh”. People of Bangladesh will look and take necessary objective actions against the subject on time unless the Dhaka government blindfolds its people in Bangladesh before then. In other words, “the eyes are the mirror of the mind” (Chokh Moner Ayna). We are not asking for Justice when justice can be bought; we will never ask people to act when there are no people. We surface questions because we see possibilities of the dawn of justice in the horizon.Click here to read more reports on Bangladesh It would be surprising if the Dhaka government decides to block the Sri Lanka Guardian for its viewers in Bangladesh, as did the paranoid Sri Lankan government for our dear readers in Sri Lanka. But this is certain that this is not full fledged news paper. But as it is publishing from 2007 so it will be wise not to say it as non existent.
