My friend, they have been coming from both Pakistan and Tamil Nadu. Heck Pakistan based preachers have even caused problems in Maldives!

Not only Political Asylum, SL was being used as a base by the ISI for launching clandestine operations against India after Nepal route became too dangerous. R&AW snatched a few anti-India elements from the heart of Colombo putting the Sri Lankan government in tight spot.

Sri Lanka won't like the Indian agencies to get deeply involved like it did in Nepal where high profile political assassinations of anti-India elements were carried out. Also, India can do other things in case her security is threatened.

Wrong decision.. There are way more Indian overstayers and illegal immigrants than Pakistani's.. And most Pakistani's seeking asylum are religious minorities Christians and Ahmeddi's.. Unfortunately SL is not a signatory to UNHCR

i think its because of the recent Muslim uprisings in srilanka..there were reports about the arrests of wahabbi preachers from saudi and Pakistan ,injecting jihadism to once peacefull srilankan muslim community..good move by srilanka..

And did you actually expect GoSL to say that they are making an exception to their visa-on-arrival facility(for all) by blocking Pakistan just for India?

It would always be couched in some other issue. It does not take away that this is what India wanted.

The difference is those Tamil Sri lankans are recognized as refugees's in India having fled violence ..

Indians in SL are mainly involved in illegal activities, overstaying cheap agricultural labor in the north central province, trade, narcotics(marijuana) and go there as a transit point to illegal migrate to Europe and Australia

But most of the Pakistani refugees are them selves religious minorities so i dont see how they correlate with Sunni jihadists

Highly placed sources confirmed to the TOI that a 37-year-old man of Sri Lankan nationality, Sakir Hussain, allegedly linked to a Pakistani terror outfit, was picked up in a joint operation of Central and state police forces.

In September 2012, the Tamil Nadu Q branch had nabbed A Tamim Ansari in Trichy when he was on his way to board a flight to Sri Lanka with a bunch of secret Indian naval documents and graphics loaded into compact discs.

Ansari was dealing in foreign footwear and was also exporting vegetables. An intelligence officer had stated then that the export business was only a facade to gain acceptability at some strategic levels and he had also in his possession photographs of the Trichy airport shot from various angles. He was booked under the Official Secrets Act, 1923.

Let me get this straight- SriLanka cancels Pakistan visa on arrival because- somewhere in india a srilankan was captured with links to ISI?-

That the point I'm making. I don't think its the persecuted minorities seeking asylum, that is the real issue. Real issue must be security. Of course they will not openly say so and humiliate Pakistan, would they?

Even Chinese are worried about jihadist impulses from Pakistan, and openly too. HK allows on arrival visa for Indians, but not Pakistanis.
