MIRAMSHAH, Sept 28: An unmanned surveillance plane crashed on Friday in Land Momedkhel area of North Waziristan.

Some local people said the plane had intruded into the tribal area from Afghanistan and it might have developed a fault.

Spy planes frequently violate Pakistan’s air space to monitor militants’ movement along the Afghanistan border.

Meanwhile, two tribesmen were killed and five others were injured in a gunbattle in Mirali area of North Waziristan on Thursday night.

Sources said the militants fired rockets and missiles on a paramilitary camp in Mirali. Troops retaliated with artillery and mortar shells which hit residential compounds in Esokhel and Mosaki villages, killing the two tribesmen and injuring five others.

About 15 houses were partially damaged. The injured were shifted to a hospital in Mirali.

One soldier was injured when militants fired a barrage of rockets on the Khajori checkpost on the main road on Friday.

Officials said at least 15 rockets were fired on the checkpost jointly manned by army and paramilitary personnel.

PESHAWAR/MIRANSHAH: A pilotless US spy plane crashed about 15 kilometres inside Pakistan’s border village Land Mohammad Khel in North Waziristan Agency on Friday evening.

Local residents told The News from Miranshah by phone that the CIA-operated drone, was flying over North Waziristan when it fell on the village. Locals rushed to the spot and started collecting equipment of the destroyed plane.

The Predator reportedly came on the ground due to technical fault. Land Mohammad Khel, about 25 kilometres west of Miranshah, where the drone crashed, is the hometown of pro-MMA MNA from North Waziristan Maulana Nek Zaman.

Military spokesman Maj-Gen Waheed Arshad, when contacted, confirmed the crash inside the Pakistani territory and argued it could have most probably lost its direction due to technical problems. “The local administration has been directed to collect information and probe how the US spy plane crashed inside our territory,” explained the spokesman.

Predators have been known to crash without ground fire and have been shot down numerous times.
And if it was so easy to find debris then airplane crashes would be easy to find right?

The Predator operates at around 26,000 feet altitude and can stay aloft for 40 hours (24 hours at a 500 nanometer range). It normally carries an infrared/electro-optical payload in a gimbaled ball and an all-weather synthetic aperture radar (SAR).

The Global Hawk is the largest operational UAV ever produced and also developed out of an ACTD. While the Predator flies at medium altitude with primarily tactically focused sensors, the Global Hawk flies at altitudes nearly twice as high as commercial airliners and can stay aloft covering an area as large as the state of Illinois for 24 hours, providing near real-time imagery. It became operational in early 2002.

I Doubt there is any CIA in that area on ground you have to have a death wish to be in that area collecting intelligence on grounds for CIA.and if you are Westerner in that area you are guaranteed a bullet.
