Powerplant: four 4,910 shaft HP Allison T-56-A-A15 turboprop engines.
Mission: close support and night interdiction. these are the oldest gunships in service. all have undergone changes of powerplant, armamant and other features since entering service in the 1970s. until the changes, the AC-130H carried only 40mm and 105mm cannons.
AC-130U Spooky
Number: 17 inc. four recent additions informally called AC-130U+4s.
Powerplant: four T-56-A-15s
Mission: close support and night interdiction. these are the newest gunships, delivered in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Powerplant: four 4,700 shaft HP Rolls-Royce AE-2100D3 turboprop engines.
Mission: prepare the battlefield for Psychological operations and civil affairs broadcasts.
MC-130E Combat Talon I & II

Powerplant: upgraded with four T-56-A-15s.
Mission:Infiltration, exfilteration and re-supply of special operations forces and equipment in hostile and denied territory. secondary ops include psy ops and helicopter re-fuelling.
MC-130P Combat Shadow

Powerplant: upgraded with four T-56-A-15s.
Mission: clandestine, or low-level visibility, single or multi-ship low-level refuelling missions for special ops helicopters and Infiltration, exfilteration and re-supply of special operations forces and equipment in hostile and denied territory by air-drop or air-land.
