Weell, see, .. say, US lost in Vietman >150.000 it's armymen (+ more then 60% of all it's aviation) , Soviet Union lost less than 15.000 people... BUT:
All the existed (and some but not much of still exists) Afgani industry was build in that time by USSR; USSR was building roads, schools, hospitals, electrical power stations for Afganistan (people of Afganistan);
What's done by Americans now? Drug production incease to >70% of all drug produciton of all the Planet ?
And many of those mujaheds who fought against Soviet Union now (being old men ) tell that Soviet Guyes was greate comparing to US : they not just fought but built all the afgani economical assets, whereas Amiricans just sitting in mil bases and bombing people using their drones

Just to add alil more to that stated above: Really, SU/Rus was the provider for such countries as Afganistan to 20/21 century... now it's back to middle ages and seems like "Westen Aliance" feel all ok about it
