South Korean leader brags about Korean war in US

That struggle is known in the U.S. as the Battle of Chosin Reservoir.

Yoon lauded both the successes of the intervention and the grueling withdrawal.

“General MacArthur caught the enemy off guard with the landing of Incheon and turned the tide of the war,” he said. “The U.S. 1st Marine Division miraculously broke through a wave of 120,000 Chinese troops at the Battle of Lake Changjin ... In the Battle of Lake Changjin alone, 4,500 American service members lost their lives. Over the course of the war, almost 37,000 U.S. soldiers fell.”

U.S. forces, leading a United Nations coalition, intervened from Japan and proceeded to drive the North Korean troops back from South Korean territory to the brink of total destruction in the far north of the peninsula.

“But just as U.N. forces launched what was hoped to be the final offensive, hundreds of thousands of Communist Chinese soldiers poured into Korea, overwhelming the U.N. troops and completely changing the nature of the war,” as U.S. Army chief historian Matthew Seelinger has written. “Fighting in extreme cold and over rugged terrain, the Americans and their allies were forced to retreat south down the Korean peninsula, suffering heavy casualties along the way.”

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning:

“With solid facts, the war has shown the world that if any country or military chooses to stand on the wrong side of history, bully the weak, act against the will of the people, and engage in territorial expansion or invasion, it will pay dearly for its egregious acts”.

“According to China’s records, the enemy forces lost 36,000 troops to the Battle of Lake Changjin (Battle of Chosin Reservoir ), including 24,000 U.S. troops that contained an entire U.S. regiment,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said Friday. “Walton H. Walker, commander of the U.S. Eighth Army, lost his life after his truck rolled over in an accident. Then-U.S. Secretary of State Dean Acheson called the result of the battle ‘the longest retreat in U.S. military history.’”

This South Korean president is such a cheesy clown, a shameless US lapdog with zero honor and self respect, North Korea should take a good care of him.

.
This South Korean President is literally whitewashing the US led UN army's defeat by the Chinese army, literally saying the US army won the Korean war instead. What is more surprising is all the American congressmen were exhilarated in cheering his lie of the battle at Lake Changjin.

The retreat must be very hasty and disorganized. no one made way even for their chief commander, everyone must be running desparately for their own lives.

In the Battle of Chosin Lake, USA lost 24k people, and the commander of the 8th Army Group, Lieutenant General Walker, died. More than half of the casualties in the First Division of the USA Marine Corps. The polar bear regiment has been completely eliminated, and its military flag is still being visited in China.

Is this South Korean president really paying tribute to Americans? Why do I think he's mocking Americans?

The Greatest Escape in US Military History - Korean War Battle of Chosin Reservoir

The Battle of Chosin Reservoir marked a prominent moment in the Korean War. During the 17 days of fierce battle amidst freezing weather, 30,000 United Nations Command troops were surrounded by 120,000 People's Volunteer Army soldiers from China. These men were under direct orders from Mao Zedong to destroy the United Nations' forces...

The U.S. troops found themselves in the middle of the harshest winter recorded during the war. They were out of supplies, and their guns had frozen. Desperate for artillery, they placed their hope for survival on an artillery airdrop. But to their surprise, the one such drop contained nothing but Tootsie Rolls.

The Chinese had the U.S. X Corps trapped, or so they thought. However, the U.S. would ultimately pull off a daring breakout to accomplish the "greatest evacuation movement by sea in U.S. military history." The battle has since become even more legendary thanks to tales about how the Tootsie Rolls actually saved the U.S. soldiers...

This war concluded with restoration of South Korea in 1953:

US accomplished its core political objective = won the war.

Sorry people! Stop with emotional rants and attempts to re-write history.

US killed North Korea and China restored it. China started from the very Chinese border and ended half way through Korea, so who won?

US and its dogs pushed the war to the very Chinese border river, the Yalu, and landed shells inside China killing many

"The cocky general MacArthur declared that UN troops would invade North Korea, defeat the communist forces, stop fighting by Thanksgiving, and return home in time for Christmas. Charles Ross recalled that his commanders told him and his fellow soldiers that the war’s end was in sight: “We had been told that the war was all but over, and we were going to do an Armistice Day parade for General MacArthur in Tokyo on November 11, 1950.”

Is the USA' strategic goal really only to protect South Korea?

Their goal was to return home by Thanksgiving and enjoy turkey dinner in 1950.

If the strategic goal of the USA is limited to avoiding the demise of South Korea, then the USA has indeed won.

If the strategic goal of the USA is to eliminate North Korea before Christmas 1950, then they have lost.

Anyway, China's strategic goal has always been clear, it is to avoid the collapse of North Korea. We are clearly the winners.

If the strategic goal of the USA was limited to avoiding the demise of South Korea, why it didn't stop at 38th parallel but pushed all the way to the very Chinese border?

He brags about US troops managed to avoid being totally annihilated by the Chinese army, how dumb it is, wars are never won by "successfully" running away from your pursuing enemies.

.
When US entered the Korean war, the US led UN army was given mandate by UN to restore South Korea. But, when the UN army reached the 38 parallel with much easy, MacArthur changed the objective to occupy the whole of Korea and the US gov approved his decision without objection. When UN army reached the Yale river on the Chinese border, MacArthur was openly talking of expanding the war to Chinese land, wanted to occupy Manchuria and remove the Chinese Communist gov all together. Mao's judgment was right to send the Chinese army to fight in Korea in order to secure China and restore North Korea.

If US didn't cross the 38th parallel, there would be no Chinese intervention.
