TEHRAN (FNA)- South African President Jacob Zuma underlined his country's willingness to further increase bilateral relations with Iran.
"We are willing to expand our relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran," President Zuma stated on Thursday.
He made the remarks during a ceremony marking the induction of new ambassadors from Iran, China, Russia, Japan, Qatar, Thailand, Vatican and Chad in South Africa's capital of Pretoria.
Iran's new ambassador to South Africa, Mohammad Faraji, submitted his credentials to President Zuma in the capital Pretoria, and expressed the hope that friendly relations between Tehran and Pretoria would further expand.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's administration has striven hard to maximize relations with the African continent.
Iran is also an observing member of the AU and has shown an active presence in previous AU summit meetings.
The country is considered as one of the AU's strategic partners along with India, Japan, China, several South American states and Turkey, while Tehran is also believed to be prioritizing promotion of its economic and political ties with the African states.
