RIYADH/JEDDAH — Pakistani missions in Riyadh and Jeddah organized programs to commemorate Kashmir Solidarity Day. The event in Riyadh was held in the embassy's chancery hall and presided by Pakistan Ambassador Manzoor ul Haq.

Prince Abdullah Bin Sultan Bin Nasser was the chief guest and Dr. Fazal ur Rahman was honorary chief guest.

The speakers expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri people in their struggle to get their right to self-determination and condemned the Indian occupation of Kashmir. They appealed to the UN to solve the Kashmir issue according to Security Council resolutions and pledged to continue their support for the Kashmiris.

Ahmed Bakhsh, a journalist, said the new Indian government is trying to change the demography of Kashmir by settling non-state residents and cancel the special status conferred by the Indian constitution to Kashmir.

Student Omer Zahoor praised the Pakistani community's support for the Kashmir cause and praised Pakistan army's commitment and assured that the youth was behind them like a reinforced wall.

Dr. Asif Qureshi gave a brief background of the Kashmir problem. Dr. Javed Iqbal said India produced Maharaja Hari Singh's accession treaty to justify its occupation on Kashmir but many prominent historians like Alastair Lamb proved it otherwise.

Dr. Fazal ur Rahman said Kashmiris were not only deceived by outsiders but also by their own people like Sheikh Abdullah.

The ambassador appreciated the spirit of Pakistani community toward Kashmir issue and said that they would achieve their goal soon. He pledged that Pakistan would continue its support to Kashmiris in getting their right to self-determination. He thanked the Saudi government and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for their continuous support to the Kashmiri cause.

Abdul Basit, Asgher Qureshi, Akram Khalid Rana, Abdul Qayyum Malik, Chaudry Ashiq Hussain and Faisal Alvi also addressed the meeting.

At the end, a resolution was presented by Atiq Ahmed Raz expressing solidarity with the Kashmiris and pledging to continue their support to the cause. It was adopted unanimously.

The chief guest announced three awards for the three best speakers: Dr. Javed Iqbal, Dr. Asif Qureshi and student speaker Umer Zahoor Abbasi.

In Jeddah, Special representative of the OIC secretary-general on Kashmir, Ambassador Ezzat Kamil Mufti, said Kashmiri people have the right to live in freedom like all other people in the world.

"I understand that many states are extending support to the people of Kashmir and this is quite appreciable but still some more practical steps are needed to resolve this issue," Mufti said at the Kashmir Solidarity Day event at Consul General Aftab Ahmed Khokher's residence.

Mufti expressed his satisfaction on the resumption of the shuttle bus service between both side of Kashmir and the vital role being played by Islamic Development Bank (IDB) in solving the dispute.

Ambassador Abdul Moiz Bokhari, adviser to the OIC secretary-genera, and Ambassador Mohammad Naeem Khan, assistant secretary-general for science and technology affairs at OIC were the guests of honor.

Nami Gosheno from the department of political affairs of OIC said the OIC always gave support to Kashmiris in their legitimate struggle for their fundamental rights, including their inalienable right to self-determination.

Khokher too expressed solidarity with the people of Kashmir in their just struggle for the right to self-determination. He mentioned the messages of President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Mohammed Nawaz Sharif. He reiterated the government's unwavering political, moral and diplomatic support to the just struggle of the Kashmiri brethren for their right to self-determination as enshrined in the UN Charter and relevant UN resolutions.
