U.S.-based SunEdision Inc has won a bid to sell solar power in India at a record low tariff of 4.63 rupees ($0.0706) per kilowatt-hour, an Indian government official said, which could make the renewable energy cheaper than fossil fuel-derived electricity.

The company won the auction for a 500 megawatt project in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, Upendra Tripathy, new and renewable energy secretary, told Reuters on Wednesday.

The previous low was 5.05 rupees per kilowatt-hour, he said.

SunEdision could not immediately be reached for comments outside regular U.S. business hours.

Not again dick measuring thread.... mine is cheaper your is expensive...

1 Indian rupee is Almost equal to 1.61 Pakistani rupee and in India the Rate of Dollar is also cheaper then Pakistan so put that in your mind before you start comparing projects with projects

Don't make every thread India Vs Pakistan get a real life...

I have converted PKR to INR. Electricity is priced at PKR 17 rupees under CPEC. Converted it will be INR 10.

The cost of electricity would be Rs18 per unit PKR. The Chinese will extract their pound of flesh from the Pakistanis seeing the businessmen they are! In addition, the Chinese companies would need to pay back the enormous amount of loans taken from their Central Bank and other lending institutions for the infrastructure they are creating in the CPEC apart from their profit margins.

There are no freebies in this world! Payback time is when its going to pinch the ordinary Pakistani unless the govt subsidizes electricity which is unlikely.

Oh well, if we count the number of dick measuring contests you or Pakistanis like you have been involved in, it will be more than a full volume encyclopedia.
In fact, there is one dick measuring contest that keeps making round here in PDF which is in literal sense a dick measuring contest.

What about the Solar Cells ? Will they be bought from Indian company ? I don't think so.
Our domestic manufacturer are suffering and the foreign companies are getting contracts, and they will definetly consider Chinese company for the cells over the Indian one, coz of cost.

Also I can't understand why it is very costly to produce Solar power in Pakistan when they have (deeper than Sea) friend China ?:azn:

We need electricity even if available at slightly higher cost.

The cost is more than double, even India had that problem 3-4 years back. But Indian Gov started competition for the contracts and the companies were ready to reduce the cost due to the large market and competition from their rivals. Pakistan too have large market but there are few companies there which are playing monopoly and that is hurting their market.

The moot point is we pay for what we get hence we can drive down the price.

The conversion is right. But the normal solar electricity projects in India are all producing power at around Rs 10 per KW until now.

But yes, obviously Pakistan should have searched better for power producers.

It cost more in Pakistan because of security concerns too. Chinese labor won't come cheap when requested to head into Pakistan.
