Saudis and expatriates all over the Kingdom are enjoying the salubrious winter climate sweeping across the Kingdom. The country’s northern region witnessed snowfall on Thursday. Snow blanketed the Alqan Mountain northwest of Tabuk city and many people were seen going out with their families to relish the distinctive weather.
According to the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment, temperatures in the northern regions have reached below zero, with some areas experiencing temperatures of 2 degrees Celsius and cold winds.
The Civil Defense Department has instructed residents in the northern regions to take precautions against the severe cold and have predicted rainfall and snowfall in those regions.
Tabuk Gov. Prince Fahd bin Sultan ordered the distribution of emergency aid to residents in the wake of bitter cold. The aid includes blankets and winter clothing, as well as heating equipment for tents, mattresses and food.
The governor urged administrative officials in the region to report cases that are in need of assistance. He emphasized the importance of delivering assistance to beneficiaries as soon as possible.
There was rainfall in many parts of the Makkah region, including Makkah city, Al-Laith and Shuaiba. Schools were closed early in many parts of the region to help students reach home without being delayed by flash floods.
Saudis and expats in Jeddah are enjoying the best weather of the season, which made many foreigners who come from tropical areas nostaglic. “This is the best season for camping,” said Ismail Maritheri from King Abdulaziz University.
“Human beings cannot live continuously in one season,” he said. “We expats feel nostalgic with the onset of this weather,” Maritheri told Arab News.

Alhamdulillah that the harvest of fruits, vegetables, olives etc. is over. Snowfall was also recorded in the nearby Levant, among them in Al-Quds.

Don't forget a over 3000 km long tropical coastline (longest in the ME) and 1300 tropical islands and several beautiful mountain ranges, thousands of wadis/oasis and the biggest palm grooves in the world.

Many Arab countries are diverse.

Better not attract the psychiatric patient to this thread. You see what happens when you do.:D

Not all photos are recent but all from this year.

Hopefully sanity will return soon.

@al-Hasani,

Is this the first time snow appeared in KSA or was it a natural phenomena since ages ?

Snowfall happens practically every year in the northern provinces of KSA. It happened several times this year and just in the last few days. Snowfall also occurs in the mountainous regions in the west and south of the country although that happens much more rarely. Hail is more or less more common than snow in those regions.

Snwofall can also occur in the interior (Najd), especially in the northern parts since it is a highland and many cities are located 1000 meters above sea level, such as Ha'il. Well the south of Najd (Najd literary means highland in Arabic) is also highland but snow there happens very rarely from what I remember since the geographic distances between north and south Najd are big like anywhere else in KSA.

I would prefer that it did not snow quite frankly.
