Before people start posting nonsense.

This is for reptiles and not people - god knows we all know real humans who are worse.

So, please write up experiences or types of snakes in the region.

This side, we have the following:
. Black Mamba
. Green Mamba
. Puff Adder
. Spitting Cobra
. Rinkaals
. Python
. Cape Cobra
. Mozambican Cobra
. Boomslang

More to add later.

Not sure if we have snake enthusiasts in Pakistan. We mostly just kill them when we come across them. Don’t know the types. Cobra is famous here though. Also snake charmers were found in abundance about 20 years ago, but is now a dying profession. You’ll find one every once in a while. Maybe more so in rural areas.

THere used to be a program i watched on tv:
Snakes in The City from Durban. Sure it is on youtube

Do you own snakes?
no way!. I have plenty running wild outside; those are bad news.

after what happened to my friend - his own doing there is no way in hell.

Mambas and cobras are most abound here plus boomslang. The last one . man there is only one institute in pretoria that produces' its antivenom in the entire continent.

Do you feel comfortable sharing that story?

@denel as you can tell people aren't educated about the benefits of snakes. And this is a common misunderstanding about a lot of the wildlife there sadly. There's a lot of wildlife in Pakistan that needs to be preserved and for very good reasons too...sadly it is ignored due to ignorance.

There are a lot of different snakes in Pakistan ranging from boas, cobras, python, and even sea snakes!

Man what can i say. i had two friends at varsity. both belonged to these happie clappies christian group - they believe snakes do not harm them. Every other weekend, they would go into the hills searching and find these snakes and hold them around their necks - without any hands holding them. they believed that the power of their lord protected them. well, it turned out he brought a puff adder and put it in his closet.
my friend and i went searching for drafting grid; by chance opened closet - this mother of a mean thing is looking at me. blxm, i closed the door. We found 2 more snakes in his room and we got the hell out.
that afternoon, he starts laughing that we were chicken etc etc.
guess what at 4pm, he comes by holding his hand - 2 sets of puncture marks - take me to the hosptal been bitten.
man, immediate tying down of the arm and getting the bleeding started. Puff adder poison is extremely lethal - it destroys muscle totally. that evening went to see him. he is a big man over 2.1m; entire left side was purple like a plum; body had puffed up on that side from side of head down to toes - 2-3x.
He was lucky they did not have to amputate his arm.
We get back and plan kicks in to get rid of all his snakes.. that was a mother of an exercise.

Think my friend learnt his lesson. of course not. he does a few odds and ends including working at a croc farm where the manager gets chowed down by one of the crocs. Now runs the largest export business in the country breeding and exporting all these dangerous snakes world wide.

Only harmless wildlife not snakes.

You may think snakes are harmful but there is a lot of benefits of having snakes. Snake venom is sometimes used in medicine, snakes keep population of rodents in check lots of the animals they eat carry diseases dangerous to humans, etc. etc. There are lots of benefits from other wildlife you might think is dangerous.

Most people can recognize a Cobra. Snakes that I cannot identify scare the shit out of me. I had a frequently visiting Garter snake in my backyard for a week. Although, puny he held his own from my crazy drama to scare him away. Finally, a steel mesh that I installed across the wooden fence keeps him away. Harmless yet scary!
