SL ranked 61st in World Prosperity Index ::: Dailymirror.lk ::: Breaking News

Sri Lanka has ranked 61st globally in the 2015 Prosperity Index released by London-based the Legatum Institute on Monday.

The index measures the well-being of a country’s people and its wealth taking 142 countries across eight sub- categories into consideration: the Economy, Entrepreneurship and Opportunity, Governance, Education, Health, Safety and Security, Personal Freedom and Social Capital.

In the Prosperity Index, Sri Lanka has moved up a notch to the 61st place in overall prosperity since 2014. According to the index Sri Lanka was ranked 58 in 2012 and moved down to the 60th rank in 2013.

“Sri Lanka’s best performance is in the social capital sub-index, where it ranks 32nd and lowest rank is in the safety and security sub-index where it ranks 113th,”the index said.

According to the index, Nepal has ranked 89th, India 99th, Bangladesh 103rd, Pakistan 130th and Afghanistan 141st.

This year’s Prosperity Index reveals that Indonesia has made the most radical improvements since 2009, and that the least prosperous countries are in Sub-Saharan Africa. For the seventh year running, Norway is the most prosperous country in the world.

According to this institute, China is in same bracket with Greece, well it's an index in which external debt seems not an impact on one's "prosperity", so be it as long as this institute feel good.

It's an index where non economic factors are also taken in to consideration.. China is doing quite well given it's growing pains as oppose to European nations.. Top rated countries are all wealthy homogeneous populations with little external threats..China just scores a low in sub sectors as personal freedom and security etc.. Which has more political connotations attached

So China rise in prosperity is nothing short of phenomenal..

Parliament is a place to raise the concerns of the voters. MPs are bound by the mandate to uphold the right of the people to raise there voice. No one can challenge that. You talk about English parliament. But when did in UK a person contested from an opposite side grab power of the party which he was against? when did in UK a minority party member is elected as a PM? Most of all when did a UK opposition leader clings on to power for more than a decade to come into the power by the back door politics? When? Don't talk without thinking.

He used his 2 terms and tried to take a third one ad well while increasing his powers. Now the limit is back. He could have easily given up and make another SLFPer candidate but he wanted the 3rd term all to himself

Third class? Sounds like your Burghur community to me, who ran away from Sri Lanka because they couldn't rule the roost anymore.



It's amazing how many useless ministries have been created under the yahapalanaya regime of Sirisena and Ranil, with useless ministers to boot. Many Sri Lankans are sleeping on the street like the mother and her baby in the photo below. Others are trying to find the next meal and looking for jobs to support themselves and their families. Protesting students are beaten and threatened. Is any compassion or concern being shown towards them? Nope.

Instead we have people like Ruwan Wijewardene (State Minister of Defence) and Harin Fernando (Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure) wasting thousands of dollars to fly out to London for fun. Their official pages are filled with the pictures and videos of the All Blacks - New Zealand's national rugby team. Are these guys in school? Do they realize they have a job to do? Class and professionalism don't appear to be operative words for these two.

This is what happens when nepotism and family influence get you into positions of power. Yahapalanaya shining.

You conveniently forgot about Ranil's dictatorships rule of his party for nearly two decades. Maybe that's because you get butt hurt if you were drag into such conversation.

Anyway. I don't know how MS can claim to be contested from SLFP when MR dismissed him in early December from the SLFP. MS only got the authority of SLFP simply because of his post. There was a valid reason for MR to protest against his ascension but he didn't do it cuz it might've split the party in half.

Once MS is in power he dismissed the then CJ Mohan Peries using a paper notice. Which only dictators have done to this day. And then nominated RW who was then a leader of the minority opposition. If MS was really into "Yahapalanaya" he should've given the PM post to Nimal or could've dissolve the parliment. He did neither. Instead he acted as a dictator and appointed whom he liked to the post he wanted. Is that democracy?

Mohan peiris was not the legal CJ, the previous CJ was removed just because of one disagreement with basil.
Shirani Bandarainyake was not innocent and she did a lot of dirty deals of the Rakapakshes. However being kicked out illegally and appointing a dog like Mohan peiris through force is Illegal.
Lawyers tried hard to stop it and MR pretty didn't give a damn. Both Shirani and Mohan pieris are thieves ask any lawyer but what MR did then was totally unacceptable.
